Team Canada took on the stifling Finland hockey team in an IIHF World Championship semifinal game that kept fans on the edge of their seats. 

Finland had a stunning 3-goal period that set them too far ahead for Canada to close again. Canada will move on to play Norway for the Bronze medal on Sunday while Finland will battle Switzerland for Gold.

It's all went down at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 30 at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, Switzerland.

The two last played in a game that kicked off Canada's disappointing 2025 tournament preliminary round with a loss.

To get to the game, Canada went gone undefeated, including a satisfying 4-0 shutout victory over the United States in which Jet Greaves made 34 saves.

Finland earned their spot in this game with a 4-1 victory over Czechia. Jesse Puljujarvi leads in scoring with 9 points. They enter the game with just one loss in the preliminary round, to Switzerland, and a killer power play unit that has gone 8-for-25 and allowed just 3 goals on 20 attempts.

Canada On Last Legs - 1:15 3rd

Greaves left the net with just under three remaining in the game as Canada tried to do everything they can to extend the chance to fight for the gold.

They called a timeout with just over a minute left in the game. Canada has outshot the Finns 13-2 in the third.

Canada Trying To Find Another Goal - 10:00 3rd

Halfway through the third and Canada has yet to find another goal while Finland's defense tries to hold fast.

Canada's added 7 shots on goal in the first ten minutes of the third period while Finland's had just two.

Third Period Is Live - 20:00 3rd

Canada started the period staring down a two goal deficit after the massive period from Finland.

Finland Runs Away In Second - End of 2nd

Two goals by Finland in the middle period blew the game open and put Canada on the back foot as it found itself with another two-goal deficit—the third time in the tournament.

Canada Goes Back On Power Play - 1:59 2nd

Finland's latest goal scorer Raty was called for hooking on Scheifele to send Canada on the power play.

Aatu Raty Skates Through The Pile, Beats Greaves - 6:58 2nd

Raty pounced on a loose puck and found space with the puck in the slot and a wide open net as Greaves lost the puck through the pile of bodies.

For the third time in the tournament, Canada is down two goals.

Helenius Scores, Gives Finland Lead - 9:24 2nd

After a short review, the refs called Helenius's goal good. It was a slow trickler that bounced through Greaves' legs and eventually made it all the way over the line before Greaves kicked it out of the net.

Barkov Makes Beautiful Move, Ties It Up - 19:11 2nd

It was all Barkov in front of the net with the puck after Lehtonen sent it towards the net, he had his back to Greaves and was able to backhand lift the puck to score.

Canada Enters Intermission With Lead - End of 1st

Although Finland showed up on time and scored the opening goal, the second half of the first period was all Canada. Robert Thomas earned his long awaited, first goal of the tournament. Holloway continued his massive production with the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes to go.

Macklin Celebrini drew the penalty on Konsta Helenius to bring out the whistles for the first power play of the game. Canada's power play has been 4-for-18 and Finland has allowed just 3 goals on 20 attempts up to this point.

Holloway Enters With Speed, Beats Annunen - 5:34 1st

Canada takes the 2-0 lead with a Holloway goal off of the Macklin Celebrini setup. Holloway entered the Finnish zone with speed and skated around two defenders before elevating the puck into the net for the lead.

Robert Thomas Scores Off The Rebound - 11:43 1st

Thomas and Scheifele jumped on the turnover and before Finland knew it, it was going in past Annunen to tie the game.

Puistola Opens The Scoring! - 16:30 1st

CAN 0, FIN 1

Finland takes the early lead after Vilardi mishandled and turned over the puck to the Finns. Puistola beat Greaves up high above the glove.
