A two day break and the Canada men's hockey team was back at it against Norway at the 2026 IIHF World Championships in Fribourg, Switzerland at BCF Arena.

Team Canada was staring down a potential fourth win in a row after breezing past Denmark on Monday 5-1. They had outscored opponents 16-4 going into the game.

Norway played the top team in their group hard after winning two 4-0 shutouts over Slovenia and Italy despite opening their tournament with a close loss to Slovakia.

Mark Scheifele Completes Hat Trick To Give Canada Win Over Norway In OT

All it took was Canada's first rush down the ice in overtime for Mark Scheifele, Macklin Celebrini, and Evan Bouchard to create the play and beat Norwegian goaltender Tobias Normann for the win.

Scheifele earned the hat trick off of the Bouchard setup to cap off Canada's fourth win, their hardest-earned of the 2026 tournament.

And with that late tip-in from Ryan O'Reilly, we're off to bonus hockey and some 3-on-3 action.

Celebrini, Scheifele, Bouchard started for Canada.

With just over 90 seconds remaining, Ryan O'Reilly scored the tying goal. Celebrini shot the puck in from the point where O'Reilly was able to get a stick on it, knocking the puck up and to the corner over Normann.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Tinus Luc Koblar earned his 5th point of the tournament with a deflection goal in that was tossed ahead by Emilio Pettersen.

Kaasastul From The Point! - 11:51 3rd

We are once again tied up in Fribourg as the defenseman Christian Kaasastul scores on the turnover deep from the point. He had traffic from the Canadian defenders which allowed the puck to slide past Cam Talbot.

Norway Called For Holding, Killed Off - 13:18 3rd

Max Krogdahl went to the box for holding to put Canada on their fifth power play and the chance to extend their lead to two.

Norway killed it off, though.

Cozens Scores Shorty To Open Third! - 19:23 3rd

It took less than forty seconds for Dylan Cozens to give Canada the lead while Norway still had most of their power play remaining.

Norway Keeping Canada On Their Toes - End of 2nd

After forty minutes of hockey, Norway has held their own and kept the pressure on Canada throughout the game.

With just seven seconds remaining in the period, Canada was called for too many man on the ice to put Norway on their fourth advantage of the game.

Martone To The Box - 2:39 2nd

Norway gets their third chance on the advantage as this tied game heads into the final moments of the middle frame. 

Porter Martone won't be available after the interference call as Canada kills off the power play. He flipped the stick out of the Norwegian defender's hands to bring out the whistle.

Norway heads on the power play after Connor Brown was called for tripping during the faceoff immediately after the goal.

Vilardi Ties It Up On The Power Play - 8:03 2nd

Martone drew a holding call on Havard Ostrem Salsten to send Canada on their fourth power play just after the halfway point.

Canada smelled blood in the water as they had Normann all over the crease trying to make saves. Eventually, Vilardi grabbed the rebound and slid it in past Normann down low for the third goal.

Norway Retakes The Lead - 16:26

Noah Steen scored his second goal of the tournament with a nice tip in on the Vesterheim one-timer delivery.

DeMelo Called For Interference, Norway Power Play - 18:04 2nd

Dylan DeMelo was sent to the box while tying up a Norway attacker, trying to create some time for Reilly to pick up the puck and clear it from the Canadian zone.

Norway got their first power play of the game as a result.

Second Period Has Started - 19:44 2nd

Canada and Norway have returned to the ice with Canada on the man-advantage.

They didn't take long to get comfortable in Norway's zone once again putting the pressure on Normann.

Ostby went back to the box for the final minute of the period for tripping, giving Canada their third advantage of the game.

Canada was unable to convert before time expired.

His second in two minutes, Mark Scheifele hit the give-and-go with Wotherspoon. Scheifele was waiting in the slot with his stick in space before rocketing home the tying goal.

A huge goal came next from Mark Scheifele, who has struggled this far in the tournament.

He tripped on his way through the slot, diving out and taking a swing at the puck to flip it in past Normann.

Johannes Johannsesen Gives Norway 2-0 Lead - 8:23 1st

Immediately off an offensive zone faceoff, Johannesen beat Cam Talbot for Norway's second goal.

Traffic out front helped him get it past as the netminder didn't even see the puck.

Celebrini Held, Norway Kills Off Another - 8:50 1st

Noah Steen was called for holding on Macklin Celebrini to put Canada on their second power play of the game as they look for the equalizer.

They came up short although both power play units were all over Normann, pushing Canada's shots on goal up to 10 in the first period.

Norway Opens Scoring, Bakke Olsen Beats Talbot - 14:38 1st

For the first time in the tournament, Canada trails after Eskild Bakke Olsen whipped it in past Cam Talbot to open the scoring for Norway.

It's Eskild Bakke Olsen second goal and third point of the tournament.

Celebrini Tripped, Norway Kills It Off - 16:09 1st

Celebrini tried skating the puck up the boards in Norway's zone but Kirstian Ostby's stick got in between his legs to force the first power play of the game. 

Canada's already circling, with Tavares and O'Reilly battling it out through the slot on the power play. Passes have been connecting but a few good sticks from Norway's defense have kept Canada stalled.

Norway surged back the other way after Ostby came out of the box and threw a shot on Talbot.
