The tournament hosts Switzerland shut out Norway on home ice in an early puck drop in the IIHF World Championship semifinals.

After a 6-0 shutout, the Swiss move on to tomorrow's gold medal game to play the winner of Finland/Canada.

In the quarterfinals on Thursday, the Swiss toppled Sweden while Norway eliminated Latvia to earn their spots in today's semifinal.

Norway was searching for their first IIHF World Championships medal after an outstanding performance in the preliminary round—this year, they will have to settle for matching their best finish since 4th place in 1951.

En route to the knockout rounds, Norway shutout Slovenia and Italy and took Canada to overtime. Noah Steen and Tinus Luc Koblar led the team with six goals each over the seven games.

Switzerland have yet to lose a game, with goalie Leonardo Genoni's helping them to a tournament-best goal differential.

For the sixth time in this game, the crowd sings the Swiss goal chant and things get even worse for Norway. Rochette scored in his world championship debut.

Norway Outshooting Swiss In Third, Crowd Sings Along - 5:00 3rd

Although they trail by five, Norway has been trying to get pucks on net to force a mistake by Genoni. Switzerland is also happy to let the clock tick away and play defensively.

Switzerland has Norway exactly where they want them, giving up bad penalties and handing free goals over to some of the best players in the world.

Switzerland made it 5-0 with a goal from Nico Hischier off the assist from Riat, who just scored the last. They took advantage of the change from Norway to create the opportunity.

Third Period Is Underway - 19:27 3rd

After the three goals in the second period, Norway has a huge uphill battle to start chipping away at if they want to be in this game.

Swiss Life Arena Buzzing After Second Period - End of 2nd

It's likely to be twenty minutes straight of celebration that the Swiss men's national team is making it to the 2026 IIHF World Championship gold medal game for a third year in a row.

Unless Norway scores at least five goals, the Swiss will face off against the winner of Canada vs Finland to battle it out for a medal in front of the Zurich faithful.

Riat Scores 4th For Swiss! - 3:36 2nd

After the Swiss circled Norway's zone for the entire 5-on-3 power play, all it took was a quick reset and some speed for Damien Riat to enter the zone and beat the goalie.

Roman Josi had the puck near the boards before making the pass to Riat in the slot.

Malgin Draws 5-On-3 - 5:00 2nd

Bakke-Olsen went down to the ice after Suter's stick struck across his knees. Norway gets a third attempt at the power play. They brought out five forwards on the power play.

In the first minute of the power play, Switzerland had better chances at the net and Malgin drew a high sticking penalty on Klobar to make it 4-on-4 for a minute.

To add to Norway's troubles, Max Krogdahl was then called for slashing as Malgin broke out with the puck and worked to get an attempt on Norway's netminder.

Jager Redirects It Past Haukeland! - 7:00 2nd

Jager's great tournament continues afterJung sent the puck hard in on the net and Jager caught a piece of it to send it through the five hole and extend the lead to three. Switzerland is looking fantastic.

Riat Called For Slashing - 8:51 2nd

SUI 2, NOR 0

Martinsen's stick left his hands very easily and Riat was called for slashing to send Norway on their second power play of the game.

The Swiss fans were not happy with the call. Thurkauf had a shorthanded attempt but shot it wide.

Vesterheim had a nice shot that beat Genoni, it hit the crossbar though and bounced away.

The other way, Malgin had a shorthanded opportunity as well. Eventually, the Swiss killed it off.

Denis Malgin Makes It Two! - 15:37 2nd

As Switzerland keeps the pressure on, Denis Malgin made it 2-0 off the rush and a pass by Thurkauf to beat the single Norwegian defender. It's Malgin's fifth goal of the tournament.

The Swiss have forced a couple of good saves from Haukeland to open the second period.

Switzerland takes one step closer to the medal games as they lead Norway after the first frame.

The home team takes the lead with a snipe from Christoph Bertschy. He did all the work himself, working the puck down low beneath the crease and making his way out front to Haukeland's right to elevate the puck into the net.

The onslaught of penalties continue and Switzerland got their second power play of the period.

Switzerland has overtaken control of the offensive game with 10 shots on goal to Norway's five.

The whistles keep getting blown as the physicality continues to rise at Swiss Life Arena and Andreas Martinsen is called for holding.

Switzerland earned their first power play of the game and put up another three shots but were unable to beat Haukeland.

Josi Called For Tripping, Norway Power Play Killed Off - 16:21 1st

It's been a penalty-filled first minute as Josi gets his stick between Elvsveen's legs and sends him to the ice. Just beforehand, Ken Jager and Tinus Luc Koblar were sent to the box for a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Norway was moving with speed but unable to get a good luck on Genoni without first finding a Swiss penalty killer in the way.
