Canada and Norway were set for face off at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich for their second meeting at the 2026 IIHF World Championships.

This time, it was for all the marbles as the two fight for the Bronze medal after losing their semifinal match-ups on Saturday.

After 58 minutes of hockey Canada was down by two goals and Norway looked like they were going to secure their first bronze medal in history. Enter Robert Thomas.

Thomas scored two goals in some very scrappy play in the Norwegian netminder Henrik Haukeland's face to tie it up for Canada and send it to overtime for the bronze medal.

After just a few minutes of 3-on-3 overtime, it was Norway who found themselves on the breakaway with a 2-on-1 and the time and space to beat Jet Greaves.

Haukeland made 44 saves to help the team to their historic victory.

Steen Scores The Overtime Winner To Make History For Norway!

Noah Steen worked his way into the Canadian zone slowly with just Darnell Nurse back to defend the two-on-one. Steen had Hurrod as a pass option but he chose to rip it above Jet Greaves' glove side to score and secure Norway's first ever medal.

Thomas Scores Again To Tie It Up! - 0:07 3rd

It was pure chaos in the crease as Crosby and Thomas tried to create the tying goal. Ryan O'Reilly sent the puck in from deep and it went into Thomas's chest who dropped it down in the crease and swept the puck in to the net for the second goal.

Ten minutes of sudden death 3-on-3 overtime is next! What an ending to the period.

Norway cannot believe it.

Thomas Scores For Canada With Empty Net - 1:16 3rd

It took over two minutes of the extra attacker to get a shot on Haukeland that he couldn't get in front of. Thomas scored his second goal of the tournament under maximum pressure as they try to end Norway's dreams of making history.

Canada's Power Play Comes Up Short, Greaves Pulled - 3:12 3rd

Ostby was called for tripping Scheifele behind the net to send Canada on a late power play. Canada is 0-for-3 in the game.

Celebrini's showing frustration as the power play fails to come up with anything.

Greaves heads to the bench to add the attacker for Canada.

Norway Right Back On Power Play - 8:40 3rd

Wotherspoon was called for boarding, a frustration penalty as Canada continues to get out of control.

Norway had two shots on goal on the previous power play.

They added another two shots on the next power play, making it 0-for-4 with the advantage today.

Norway Gets Another Power Play - 12:40 3rd

Darnell Nurse was called for interference on Haukeland by skating right into the crease.

Canada and Norway set off for the third period of play for the bronze.

Norway Holds As Offense Slows In Middle Period - End of 2nd

Shots on goal slowed significantly in the second period as Norway looked to hold onto their lead and secure the bronze. That became much easier when Solberg shot a cannon from the blue line and beat Greaves for the second time today.

The third period is coming up next after a short intermission.

Solberg earned his first goal of the tournament, second point with a nice move at the blue line through the traffic to beat Greaves. Two goal lead for Norway.

Norway's goal scorer skated right through Greaves to bring out the whistle and send Canada on the power play.

Thomas held Ostby to send Norway on their first power play of the game.

Frustration Showing On For Canada - End of 1st

Norway leads Canada after twenty in the game for the bronze. Norway's relentless physicality and lights-out goaltender Haukeland have been enough to keep Canada's firepower from reaching its potential.

Canada threw everything they could at the Norwegian netminder in an shot-filled open.

Norway's goal came off of a bad play by the otherwise rock solid Greaves in what has been his most glaring mistake of the tournament.

Crosby took a hit from Martinsen into the boards which brought up the arm and sent Canada back on the power play. He was slow to get up after getting his head driven into the glass by the Norwegian captain.

Pettersen Scores Off The Greaves Turnover - 13:10 1st

Greaves went behind the net to retrieve a puck off the boards and he turned it over into Pettersen's hands who swept it into Canada's net.

Norway Turns Up Pressure - 14:50 1st

After the first five shots on goal came from Canada, Norway had their own offensive push. Although they weren't able to set up their system, they were able to be scrappy and create shots on goal off of turnovers in Canada's zone.

Canada's Power Play Generates Momentum - 17:17 1st

Kasastul smacked Martone across the head with his stick to draw the first penalty of the game and send Canada's power play unit out on the ice.

Celebrini passed it to Crosby in the lower half of the circle and Haukeland was called on early to make a great save.

Canada moved the puck well on the next attempt, choosing the perimeter this time and finding Celebrini above the circle who ripped it into the post.

Norway was able to kill off the remainder of the penalty.

It's the final day of the 2026 IIHF World Championships and Canada is looking to leave with a medal this year after missing out in the past few years.
