2022-23 ECHL Power Rankings

Toledo Walleye Remain Hottest Team, Top ECHL Power Rankings

The Toledo Walleye haven’t lost since Feb. 4, and the Cincinnati Cyclones haven’t lost since Feb. 15. They’ve gone a combined 38 games without a regulation loss.

The league’s best team is third this week, more of an indication of just how hot the two teams leading the way have been, more than anything else.

The Toledo Walleye haven’t lost since Feb. 4, and the Cincinnati Cyclones haven’t lost since Feb. 15. They’ve gone a combined 38 games without a regulation loss.

So, even while the Idaho Steelheads have yet to suffer their 10th regulation loss of the season with just 12 games left to play, they find themselves in third place in FloHockey’s very unofficial ECHL power rankings.

1) Toledo Walleye (41-15-4-2) (Last Week: 1)

The Walleye aren’t even leading their division, given how strong the Cyclones have been this past month.

Toledo still is one point behind Cincinnati for the top spot in the Central, but the Walleye remain the league’s hottest team, having won both of their games this past week in Indy and Kalamazoo, capping a five-game road trip.

2) Cincinnati Cyclones (40-12-6-3) (Last Week: 3)

Three games at home for Cincinnati, three wins. They took back-to-back contests against Iowa, before sealing the weekend sweep with a 2-1 win over Fort Wayne on Sunday.

3) Idaho Steelheads (48-9-1-2) (Last Week: 2)

Idaho has rattled off six straight wins and is 9-1 in its last 10 games. Yet, somehow, the Steelheads still are third in the rankings.

Arguably the favorite for the Kelly Cup, the Steelheads swept a three-game series at home against Orlando this past week.

4) Newfoundland Growlers (41-18-2-0) (Last Week: 4)

Newfoundland has very quietly emerged as the team to beat in the East but had something of a difficult time against Adirondack over the weekend, needing overtime and a shootout for their two wins to secure four points after Friday’s loss to the Thunder.

5) Indy Fuel (37-21-3-0) (Last Week: 6)

Indy moves up a spot after a strong showing this past weekend, including taking a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Toledo on Friday.

6) South Carolina Stingrays (36-20-4-1) (Last Week: 10)

The Stingrays had a busy week, taking six out of a possible eight points, falling only to Greenville on Friday, while picking up two wins against Jacksonville and one against Savannah.

7) Greenville Swamp Rabbits (34-19-7-1) (Last Week: 7)

After a Tuesday loss in Atlanta, the Swamp Rabbits rebounded nicely, picking up back-to-back 4-1 wins over South Carolina and Jacksonville to maintain the seventh spot in the rankings.

8) Jacksonville Icemen (36-21-3-1) (Last Week: 5)

The Icemen fell three spots after dropping all four games this past week, which dropped them out of first place in a competitive South Division playoff race.

9) Reading Royals (35-21-4-0) (Last Week: 9)

The Royals nearly pulled off the sweep of Atlanta at home this past week, outscoring them 11-4 in the first two games, before falling in a one-goal loss Sunday.

10) Florida Everblades (33-18-4-4) (Last Week: 8)

Florida split a two-game series up north in Trois-Rivieres this past weekend, winning a 7-5 slugfest on Friday, before falling in a more tightly played 2-1 contest the following night.
