USHL Power Rankings: Despite Losses, Fargo Remains On Top

Welcome to FloHockey's bi-monthly power rankings for the USHL. Find out which of the league's 16 teams rise and fall over the course of the long regular season.


1. Fargo Force / Last Ranking: 1

Record: 39-7-2-0

Fargo suffered a rare two-game sweep at home over the weekend against Sioux Falls.

Brandon Svoboda (SJS) has three goals in five games since being acquired from Youngstown.

Hampton Slukynsky (LAK) saw his six-game win streak end Friday.

The Force need to win nine of their final 12 games to match the USHL’s single-season record for wins (48), previously established by Des Moines during the 1998-1999 campaign.

2. Dubuque Fighting Saints / Last Ranking: 2

Record: 32-10-3-3

The Saints took care of business at the Covelli Centre this weekend with a two-game sweep of the Youngstown Phantoms to extend their lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

Jake Sondreal potted a goal and tallied an assist. He now has 61 points on the season, good for second in the league.

With his 3-0 shutout win Saturday, Kevin Reidler (OTT) extended his win streak to seven games.

3. Sioux City Musketeers / Last Ranking: 3

Record: 28-16-6-0

The Muskies rebounded from a 6-1 loss Friday with a 6-5 shootout win the following night. 

Kaden Shahan scored twice Saturday, and his 34 goals are the most among USHL skaters.

Brian Nicholas snapped a four-game streak without a point, tallying a three-point effort on Saturday.

4. Green Bay Gamblers / Last Ranking: 4

Record: 27-12-5-2

The Gamblers had a difficult weekend, dropping Friday’s game to Chicago in overtime and an 8-4 contest against the NTDP U18s on Sunday.

Jayson Shaugabay (TBL) picked up where he left off in February, recording three goals in two games to start March. The Tampa Bay Lightning prospect has 22 points (11-11-22) in 21 second-half games.

Julian Lutz (ARI) saw his league-best 17-game point streak end Sunday. During that incredible run, he accumulated 30 points in 18 games.

5. Muskegon Lumberjacks / Last Ranking: 5

Record: 29-17-1-1

Is there anyone hotter on the planet than Matvei Gridin right now? The University of Michigan commit has multi-point efforts in four of his last seven games.

As a result, Muskegon has gone 7-3-0-0 over its last 10 games.

Yet, the Jacks are only one point ahead of Youngstown in the standings, underscoring the importance of this weekend’s two-game set against the Phantoms.

6. Youngstown Phantoms / Last Ranking: 7

Record: 26-15-4-3

Speaking of, Youngstown has dropped two straight. However, the Phantoms have secured points in six of their last 10.

Luke Osburn’s (2024) offense has picked up, recording points in three of his last four games, including two goals.

In net, Aiden Wright saw his three-game win streak snapped, dropping both games over the weekend against first-place Dubuque.

7. Waterloo Black Hawks / Last Ranking: 6

Record: 26-18-0-1

Waterloo still can catch Sioux City in the standings, sitting just three points back, but the Black Hawks have two games in hand.

The Hawks erupted for seven goals at USA Hockey Arena on Friday night, with seven skaters finding the back of the net.

Of those, Will Felicio (2024) potted his ninth of the season and has nine points (4-5-9) in 17 games since being acquired by Waterloo.

8. Tri-City Storm / Last Ranking: 8

Record: 23-17-4-4

Despite an impressive overtime win Friday, Tri-City dropped its next two games to finish the weekend. 

After seeing his lengthy point streak come to an end, Trevor Connelly (2024) has points in three of his last four games, including Friday’s overtime winner, just 21 seconds into the extra session.

Thatcher Bernstein (2024) has had a challenging start to his Tri-City tenure, dropping three of his first contests.

9. Sioux Falls Stampede / Last Ranking: 9

Record: 23-22-4-1

The Herd snapped a prolonged losing streak with a surprising two-game sweep of Fargo at Scheels Arena this past weekend.

The newly acquired Christian Manz stopped 47 of 49 shots on goal in his team debut Friday.

John McNelis snapped a 16-game stretch without a goal Saturday, finding the back of the net for the 13th time this season.

10. Madison Capitols / Last Ranking: 11

Record: 22-19-4-2

The Caps are back up in our power rankings after winning four straight games.

Austin Burnevik had multi-goal efforts in both games this past weekend and has six goals in his last five games. He sits one goal behind Sioux City’s Kaden Shanan for the league lead.

Meanwhile, Patrik Berzens picked up some well-earned hardware this week after making 21 saves Saturday for his first shutout with Madison.

Congrats to Patriks Berzins on being named USHL Goaltender of the Week.

11. Chicago Steel / Last Ranking: 10

Record: 21-21-3-4

The Steel finished the weekend 2-1-0 but notably got blown out on home ice by a Lancers team that previously had lost 15 consecutive games.

Michael Hage (2024) had a seven-point weekend and collected USHL Forward of the Week honors Monday.

Louka Cloutier has won three of his last four starts, including Sunday, where he turned aside 33 of 34 shots on goal.

12. Lincoln Stars / Last Ranking: 12

Record: 22-21-2-2

The Stars rebounded from a tough overtime loss on Friday night to take two of their three games against Tri-City on the weekend.

Blake Montgomery potted his 18th goal of the season and his fourth in his last six games.

Meanwhile, Yan Shostak stopped a combined 52 of 58 shots on goal, collecting wins on both Saturday and Sunday.

13. Cedar Rapids RoughRiders / Last Ranking: 13

Record: 20-22-5-2

The Riders are two points back of the sixth, and final, playoff spot in the East, having collected points in seven of their last 10 games.

Jack Larrigan has been an excellent addition to Cedar Rapids, scoring the shootout winner Saturday and having points in four of his last five games.

14. Des Moines Buccaneers / Last Ranking: 15

Record: 20-24-4-1

In the West, the Bucs are three points behind Lincoln in the standings for the final playoff spot. 

Matt Curley’s squad is playing great hockey right now, collecting points in the last six games.

Liam Watkins has been a goal-scoring machine lately, potting a hat trick Friday and six goals in his last four games.

15. USNTDP / Last Ranking: 15

Record: 15-28-1-2

Cole Eiserman (2024) continues his torrid scoring pace, potting four more goals over the weekend, including a hat trick Sunday. The Boston University commit needs 15 goals to break Cole Caufield’s scoring record of 126 NTDP goals, set in 2019.

As for the U17s, Cullen Potter (2025) has been heating up lately, tallying points in his last three games.

16. Omaha Lancers / Last Ranking: 16

Record: 8-36-3-0

The Lancers snapped their 15-game losing streak Saturday night with an emphatic 6-2 win in Chicago.

Christian Kocsis recorded a three-point effort (2-1-3) in that one and now has 16 points in 31 games since being acquired.
