Motzko has been the head coach for the University of Minnesota since 2018-19 and before that was head coach at St. Cloud State University for 13 years.

Western Michigan men's hockey won its first NCAA National Championship in program history and the first program title for any sport since 1965 On April 12 at the Frozen Four in St. Louis. This is the first time a team has won the title in their first appearance at the Frozen Four since 1988.

ST. LOUIS – Isaac Howard of Michigan State University is the 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner. He led the nation with 1.41 points per game off of 52 points in 37 contests for the Big Ten champion Spartans.
