The Wichita Thunder enter the 2026-27 ECHL season as another professional level in the San Jose Sharks' development structure. Wichita is affiliated with the Sharks and the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, creating a San Jose Sharks → San Jose Barracuda → Wichita Thunder pathway for organizational movement.
The Thunder play at INTRUST Bank Arena and have competed in the ECHL since 2014-15, when Wichita joined the league with the group of former Central Hockey League clubs.

Why Sharks Fans Should Watch Wichita Thunder
The San Jose Sharks → San Jose Barracuda → Wichita Thunder structure gives Sharks fans another professional level to follow.
Movement on the Barracuda roster can create opportunities for eligible developmental players to receive professional playing time in Wichita. That makes assignments and transactions following NHL and AHL camps particularly relevant for Sharks fans interested in tracking the organization beyond San Jose and the Barracuda.
Goaltending is one specific area to monitor. Yaroslav Korostelev is currently listed by the league, while a recent league item cited in the research also reported Wichita adding Korostelev and Guignard. Neither should automatically be considered a Sharks prospect or San Jose-owned player.
Which Sharks or Barracuda players ultimately reach Wichita will depend on organizational decisions, and no specific prospect should be considered Thunder-bound until an assignment is confirmed.
For Sharks fans, Wichita offers another professional prospect layer to monitor while the Thunder navigate the Mountain Division and pursue the franchise's first ECHL championship.
