The Cincinnati Cyclones enter the 2026-27 ECHL season as part of the Toronto Maple Leafs' professional development structure. The organizational connection runs from the Maple Leafs to the AHL's Toronto Marlies and then to Cincinnati, giving Leafs fans another level of the system to monitor.
Cincinnati's current ECHL franchise arrived in the city for the 2001-02 season through the Louisville RiverFrogs and Miami Matadors lineage. It is separate from the original Cincinnati ECHL membership that played from 1990-92.

The current Cyclones also have championship history. Cincinnati won the Kelly Cup in 2008 and 2010, giving Maple Leafs fans a team with an established ECHL identity to follow as Toronto's organizational assignments take shape this season.
How To Watch Cincinnati Cyclones In 2026-27
Cincinnati Cyclones games can be watched live and on demand on FloHockey throughout the 2026-27 season. FloHockey is the leaguewide video platform for ECHL regular-season and postseason games.
Why Maple Leafs Fans Should Watch Cincinnati Cyclones
The Toronto Maple Leafs → Toronto Marlies → Cincinnati Cyclones relationship gives Toronto another professional destination for organizational depth.
That can become particularly important when roster congestion limits playing opportunities at the AHL level. Eligible players can receive ECHL assignments, providing another place to get professional minutes. No Leafs-contracted assignment to Cincinnati is confirmed in the research, so fans should monitor transactions following NHL and AHL camps rather than assume which prospects will play for the Cyclones.
The affiliation also does not mean every Cincinnati player belongs to Toronto. ECHL clubs can include players on ECHL contracts alongside players assigned under NHL or AHL contracts.
Cincinnati's history adds another layer. The 2010 Cyclones became the first ECHL team to erase a 3-0 series deficit on the way to a conference championship, ultimately winning their second Kelly Cup in three seasons.
For Maple Leafs fans, the 2026-27 Cyclones are another team to monitor as Toronto and the Marlies make roster decisions and move organizational depth through the system.
