The Coachella Valley Firebirds enter their fifth season as Seattle's AHL affiliate, while the Kansas City Mavericks return as the organization's ECHL affiliate after reaching the Kelly Cup Finals last season.

Who Are The Seattle Kraken's AHL And ECHL Affiliates?

The Coachella Valley Firebirds are Seattle's AHL affiliate, while the Kansas City Mavericks serve as the organization's ECHL affiliate.

Both teams enter their fifth season in Seattle's development system in 2026-27.

Coachella Valley plays at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California, while Kansas City plays at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri.

Why Kraken Fans Should Watch The Coachella Valley Firebirds

Coachella Valley Firebird could provide Kraken fans with an early look at several players pushing toward NHL opportunities.

The Firebirds begin their 72-game schedule Oct. 2 against the Ontario Reign at Acrisure Arena.

The bigger attraction, however, is a young group featuring several of Seattle's most important developing players.

Seattle Kraken Prospects To Watch With Coachella Valley

  • Jake O'Brien: Seattle's No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft recorded 93 points in 53 games for Brantford last season before appearing in four Calder Cup Playoff games with Coachella Valley. O'Brien turns pro this season and could play in either the AHL or NHL.

  • Oscar Fisker Mølgaard: The Danish forward recorded 34 points in 49 games with the Firebirds while also appearing in 13 NHL games for Seattle. Mølgaard could spend more time with the Kraken this season after a strong first year in North America.

  • Jani Nyman: Nyman scored 21 goals in only 39 AHL games last season and appeared in another 28 games for Seattle. The 22-year-old is another player who could push for a larger NHL role in 2026-27.

  • Julius Miettinen: Miettinen recorded 76 points in 52 games for Everett last season and was named WHL Playoff MVP while helping the Silvertips win their first league championship. The 20-year-old now makes the jump to professional hockey.

Other Firebirds Prospects To Know

Coachella Valley's depth extends beyond those four names.

Jagger Firkus was the Firebirds' second-leading scorer last season with 56 points in 63 games and could challenge for his NHL debut.

Goaltender Nikke Kokko also returns after appearing in three games for Seattle last season. NHL.com currently considers Kokko the No. 3 goaltender in the Kraken organization and expects him to begin 2026-27 in the AHL.

The Firebirds also re-signed forward Justin Janicke after he split last season between Coachella Valley and Kansas City.

Who Are The Kansas City Mavericks?

The Kansas City Mavericks give Seattle another professional development destination in the ECHL.

Kansas City enters its fifth season as an affiliate of the Kraken and Firebirds after a huge 2025-26 campaign.

The Mavericks won the Brabham Cup as the ECHL's regular-season champions, captured their third consecutive Mountain Division title and advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals.

Kansas City's success has made it more than simply another stop in Seattle's system.

What To Know About The Kansas City Mavericks In 2026-27

Head coach and general manager Tad O'Had returns after being named the ECHL's Coach of the Year last season.

O'Had has become the winningest coach in Mavericks history while building Kansas City into one of the league's most consistent contenders.

The connection with Coachella Valley is also easy to see. Justin Janicke played 56 games for Kansas City last season before joining the Firebirds, while Jack Randl recently moved from the Mavericks to Coachella Valley on an AHL contract.

Those moves show how the ECHL affiliate can provide players with an opportunity to earn their way to the next level.

How The Seattle Kraken's Affiliate System Fits Together

Kansas City gives developing professionals a place to earn valuable playing time in the ECHL, while Coachella Valley represents the final minor-league step before Seattle.

With prospects such as O'Brien, Mølgaard, Nyman and Miettinen moving closer to NHL opportunities, Kraken fans have plenty of reasons to follow both affiliates in 2026-27.
