Hurricanes Prospect Ivan Ryabkin Blasts One-Timer1:18

The Carolina Hurricanes erased a two-goal deficit and survived a late Vegas rally to defeat the Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime, evening the Stanley Cup Final at 1-1.

Vegas controlled much of the game early, with Brett Howden scoring twice and Carter Hart backstopping a shutout through two periods. Carolina finally broke through in the third, as Logan Stankoven sparked the comeback before Mark Jankowski and captain Jordan Staal scored in a six-minute span to give the Hurricanes their first lead.

The Golden Knights responded when Mark Stone tied the game with less than two minutes remaining, forcing sudden-death overtime.

In the extra frame, Seth Jarvis buried the game-winning power-play goal after Tomas Hertl was called for tripping Jordan Staal, sending the Lenovo Center crowd into a frenzy and sending the series to Vegas tied 1-1.

The Hurricanes capitalize on the man advantage after Jordan Staal is tripped by Tomas Hertl. Seth Jarvis ends the game for Carolina and ties up the series before Game 3 heads to Vegas.

An incredible 3rd period and overtime for Carolina has possibly saved their season.

Vegas scores a late goal to send the game to overtime. In the NHL Playoffs, overtime is a sudden-death format.

Vegas Ties the Game With Less Than Two Minutes Left - 1:21 3rd - 10:58 p.m. ET

VGK 3, CAR 3

It took some time to get going, but Game 2 is officially a classic, just like Game 1. Vegas ties the game at three goals apiece with the goal from Mark Stone. Vegas wasn't able to score on the power play, but kept the puck in the zone and snuck the puck past Frederick Andersen.

Unless either team can cause late drama, it appears Game 2 might be headed for overtime.

Carolina Takes Their First Lead of the Game Behind Jordan Staal - 4:30 3rd - 10:50 p.m. ET

VGK 2, CAR 3

The Hurricanes score their their third goal in six minutes to take their first lead in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. This time, it's Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal who puts his team ahead.

Staal's goal came directly after Vegas challenged a controversial call after the whistle was blown dead after the puck made it's way past Frederick Andersen. Carolina will try to hang on for their most important win of the season.

Hurricanes Tie the Game, Jankowski Puts Carolina Back in the Series - 7:54 3rd - 10:40 p.m. ET

VGK 2, CAR 2

When it rains, it pours for the Hurricanes. Stankoven's goal is one-upped by Mark Jankowski who puts the puck in a perfect spot off the assist from William Carrier, just avoiding the offsides call.

It's now anybody's game with just over six minutes to go in regulation, with the crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina back in the game and on their feet. It's just Jankowski's second career postseason goal.

Carolina Gets on the Board, Stankoven Puts Hurricanes Within One Goal - 10:20 3rd - 10:35 p.m. ET

VGK 2, CAR 1

The Hurricanes finally break through Carter Hart and get within one goal of Vegas. Logan Stankoven takes away the puck and puts the puck past Hart. The crowd at the Lenovo Center is back into the game as the Hurricanes try to save the series by stealing Game 2.

Carolina has had opportunities to score throughout the game and is finally able to capitalize in a major moment.

Early in the 3rd period, Vegas has had complete control over the puck. The Knights have taken multiple shots on goal and are threatening to add to their lead. Frederick Andersen, who has struggled in both games this series, already has two saves in the 3rd period.

For the first time in the NHL Playoffs, the Hurricanes have been shutout through two periods.

A nightmare period for the Carolina Hurricanes continues to become worse. Jordan Martinook is called for slashing and the Knights will have a man advantage. 

A goal here for the Knights would give them a three goal lead, possibly putting the game out of reach for a Hurricanes offense that has stalled since the end of the 1st period.

Brett Howden Scores his Second Goal as the Knights' PP Expires - 11:23 2nd - 9:25 p.m. ET

VGK 2, CAR 0

The Hurricanes are officially in trouble. Brett Howden, the leading scorer in the NHL Playoffs, scores his second goal of the game at the end of the Vegas power play to put the Knights up two goals.

Howden makes a great move to sneak the puck past Frederick Andersen. The fans in Raleigh, North Carolina are stating to get quiet as Game 2 is slipping away.

Update on Brayden McNabb for Vegas - 16:30 2nd - 9:20 p.m. ET

VGK 1, CAR 0

Brayden McNabb was hit with a puck to the face in the 1st period. He immediately left the game and had not returned. The broadcast announced that McNabb was sent to the hospital for further evaluation and will not return to the game for Vegas.

Despite more shots on goal and two power plays for the Hurricanes, the Golden Knights lead at the end of the 1st period.

Mitch Marner sends a beautiful backhand down the ice to Brett Howden who gets the puck past Frederick Andersen to start the scoring in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. There are shades of Game 1, with the Hurricanes starting quickly, but the Knights able to capitalize on their opportunities.

The Hurricanes controlled most of the first 13 minutes, but Vegas was the first team to put the puck in the back of the net, putting them ahead in the game despite less shots and hits than the Hurricanes.
