It was the final day of the 2026 IIHF World Championship preliminary round and Canada took on Czechia to cap off a perfect run and top honors heading into the knockout round that begins later this week.

Puck drop was set for 2:20 p.m. ET at BCF Arena in Fribourg, Switzerland on Tuesday, May 26.

No matter the result today, Canada will move into the quarterfinals in the number one spot atop Group B.

Czechia entered the game 4-0-1-1 and got off to a hot start, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period and a half.

Sidney Crosby was a star for the Canadians, adding two assists by connecting with Macklin Celebrini, who added two more goals to give Canada the lead. Jet Greaves made 17 saves to help provide the backbone for the comeback.

Team USA and Canada will face off in the quarterfinals on Thursday for another round of the exciting rivalry.

Cozens Empty Net Goal Taken Off - End of 3rd

CZE 2, CAN 3

Crosby thought he added his third assist of the night with the pass to Cozens for the empty net goal and 4-2 lead. It was placed under review for a coaches challenge and determined that the play was offsides.

Crunch Time For Czechia - 3:00 3rd

After leading almost the entire game, it's now crunch time as Czechia debates when to pull their goalie out to add an attacker to see if they can score the equalizer with less than five minutes in the period.

Pavlat started making his way with three minutes left but Canada was able to enter the zone and keep him in his crease. They were able to get him out with a neutral zone faceoff and two minutes to go.

With under 90 seconds left, Czechia almost beat Greaves with the empty net but he was able to make a big save.

Tavares Gives Canada The Lead! - 10:30 3rd

Tavares added his sixth point, third goal with a great play by Wotherspoon who jumped in on the rush and sent the puck in on Pavlat. Tavares had a quick redirect of the pass and beat the netminder for Canada's first lead of the game.

Czechia has yet to add a shot on goal in the third.

Canada tied it up nearly halfway through the third with another beauty. 

Macklin Celebrini earned his 11th point of the tournament. This time, Crosby was on the move through the circle with Celebrini at the crease for the give-and-go to lift it past Pavlat.

Pavlat Robs Scheifele - 15:21 3rd

On Canada's third great chance at the backdoor drive, Holloway tried to connect with Scheifele on the rush but Pavlat was there with his full body to make the stop and get the glove save.

Third Period Underway - 19:07 3rd

Canada and Czechia are back on the ice to battle it out for the final twenty minutes of regulation time.

Canada Closes Gap, Still Chasing Czechia - End of 2nd

After the second period, Canada's offense picked up significantly but it wasn't until Kubalik scored the second Czech goal that Canada found the back of the net.

It came down to Dylan Cozens, Sydney Crosby, and Macklin Celebrini reconnecting in tic-tac-toe fashion to beat Dominik Pavlat and add Canada's first to the board.

They followed it up with a power play, moved the puck well, but were unable to get a clear lane to beat the netminder again. Their search continues after the intermission with 5-on-5 hockey.

Czechia Kills Off Dangerous Power Play - 2:12 2nd

CZE 2, CAN 1

After an extended delayed penalty brought out the extra attacker, Canada was given a power play.

Martin Kaut was called for the penalty which sent up the official's arm.

Canada's passes are connecting, creating some great looks as they try to beat Pavlat and tie things up at two.

Celebrini and Bouchard set up a give-and-go but the Czech netminder was there to cover it.

Canada added four shots on goal during the power play but the Czechs did eventually clear it and kill it off.

Crosby Sets Up Celebrini To Score - 5:58 2nd

Cozens entered the zone and sent the puck through the seam over to Crosby, who was to Pavlat's right. Crosby had Celebrini in the slot, sold the shot and sent the pass over to the captain who delivered the goal and brought this to a one-goal game.

Czechia Takes Two Goal Lead! - 11:42 2nd

CZE 2, CAN 0

Dominik Kubalik scored his 4th of the tournament with a rocket that trickled under Greaves pads for the two-goal lead.

Matyas Melovsky sent over the pass to Kubalik in the slot for the setup.

Second Period Is Live - 19:16 2nd

CZE 1, CAN 0

Czechia and Canada are back on the ice. The Czechs had the man-advantage for over a minute to start the middle frame.

Canada killed it off and allowed just one shot during the kill.

Czechia Back On The Power Play, Leading After 1 - End Of 1st

CZE 1, CAN 0

Czechia went back on the power play to close out the first period after Connor Brown was called for high sticking.

Darnell Nurse had a crosscheck for Sedlak which drew together the teams in front of Greaves' cubicle.

Whitecloud and Chernak were called for matching roughing penalties as a result of the scrum.

Czechs Get First Power Play, Canada Killed It - 3:48 1st

Macklin Celebrini was called for the first penalty of the game, going to the box for holding Matyas Melovsky in the offensive zone. He grabbed the Czech's head as he skated by which drew the call.

Canada killed it off after not much came of it, but Czechia has still been very good in the first period.

Pavlat Shuts The Door On Cozens - 10:30 1st

Crosby almost connected at the backdoor with Cozens but the Czech goaltender Pavlat moved right to left expertly to make the stuff chance.

Marek Alscher Scores! Puts Czechia Up One - 13:57 1st

CZE 1, CAN 0

Alscher snapped it high past Greaves to give the Czechs the 1-0 lead on Canada. It's his second goal of the tournament.

Puck Dropped In Fribourg - 17:15 1st

CZE 0, CAN 0

Jet Greaves and Dominik Pavlat take their places between the pipes as things get going on this Tuesday evening in Switzerland.
