Finland Escapes Switzerland In OT, To Defend Title In Hockey Semifinals
Finland Escapes Switzerland In OT, To Defend Title In Hockey Semifinals
Finland secured the win in overtime over Switzerland in Milan on Wednesday to move on to Olympic semifinals. Here's what to know.

In the third 2026 Winter Olympics men's hockey quarterfinal of the day, Switzerland and Finland needed overtime to finish things up after a late tying goal by Miro Heiskenan sent the two to sudden death.
It was Artturi Lehkonen, who was the overtime hero for Finland today.
The Colorado Avalanche winger scored bar-down in 3-on-3 overtime. He beat veteran goalie Leonardo Genoni up high to earn a chance for Finland to continue defending their gold medal on Friday.
It was the second game of the day to go into overtime after Canada and Czechia went into extra hockey after the Nick Suzuki deflection beat Lukas Dostal and tied the score at three.

For Canada, Mitch Marner was the king of the day with a solo move to the net and a beautiful backhand to advance to the semifinals.
The first two periods and a half weren't pretty for the reigning Olympic gold medalists, who did not score until Sebastian Aho scored with just eight minutes remaining in the third period.
It was all Switzerland for the first forty, whose long-standing two goal lead came from first period contributions by Damien Riat and Nino Niederreiter.
Once the comeback started, it didn't stop, though, until Team Finland came off the ice cheering and hugging.
Olympic men's hockey playoffs continue on Friday, Feb. 20 with the semifinals and opponents will be determined based on the result of USA vs Sweden.
