Olympic playoff hockey is here.
By the end of Wednesday, Feb. 18, just four teams will be left staring down semifinals on Friday.
Team Canada will be one of them after facing off against the same Czechia team they dominated 5-0 in the opening game of these 2026 Winter Olympics. They outscored opponents 20-3 on the way but Czechia took them all the way to extra minutes to earn their spot in the next round.

Overtime In Milan: Canada vs Czechia Tied At 3
Canada 3, Czechia 3
After an incredible sixty minutes of Olympic playoff hockey, Canada and Czechia head back to the ice for a fourth time today in sudden death hockey. Ten minutes of 3-on-3 overtime play is next. If no one scores, we go to a five round shootout. They did not flip/change sides of the ice unlike NHL overtime rules.
The last time overtime Olympic game also included Czechia—which they lost to Switzerland.
Toews, MacKinnon and McDavid opened for Canada. McDavid took the first shot, puck rebounded through the crease but it was cleared.
Necas had a chance the other way, Binners made the stop and Harley recovered.

Canada 2, Czechia 2
Closing in on the halfway point of the period, Canada's firepower has been circling Czechia's end and putting the pressure on Dostal but they have yet to convert.
Czechia has been holding their own and even creating a few offensive chances themselves. Cervenka, Necas and Pastrnak in particular have been the biggest challenges for Canada to tamp down.
The broadcast showed a better replay of how Crosby went down with a lower body injury. It appeared that Gudas sat on top of him with his leg extended in an awkward position under weight before he was able to reposition his leg.

Tied After Two, Canada To Restart With Advantage
Canada 2, Czechia 2
After Crosby was sent to the locker room, Canada's energy was renewed. After that, Canada only allowed one shot on goal by Czechia,—a delivery from David Kampf with traffic that found metal instead of rope.
Canada doubled their shots on goal, with pucks flying in the second half of the period.
Three penalties for Czechia opened up Canada's opportunities considerably, but they remain just 1-3 with the advantage.

It was an action-packed final few minutes of the middle period.

Binnington's post helped first, deflecting the puck away on a very close chance by Kampf and Czechia's first shot on goal in nearly ten minutes.
