Team Canada Routs France 10-2; Late Fight Adds Olympic Hockey Drama

Team Canada rolled past France 10-2 in men’s hockey, with goals from McDavid, Crosby and Makar plus two from Macklin Celebrini, including a penalty shot.

Team Canada closed out group play with a statement win Sunday, overwhelming France 10-2 at Milano Santagiulia Arena. After a brief scare when Floran Douay answered Tom Wilson’s opener to tie the game 1-1, Canada’s depth took over. 

Devon Toews put the Canadians back in front, and Mark Stone added a shorthanded breakaway goal in the final seconds of the first period to make it 3-1. From there, the floodgates opened. 

Cale Makar scored early in the second, Macklin Celebrini buried a penalty shot and later added another in the third, and Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid also found the net as Canada piled on. 

France managed two goals, but Canada’s pace, puck movement, and relentless shot volume turned the final preliminary-round game into a rout.

That's the final. Across 60 minutes, Canada scored 10 goals against France. 

France still scored two goals on Canada, but the offensive prowess of the Canadians was far too much. 

Macklin Celebrini scored a penalty shot and a third period goal. 

Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar, and Connor McDavid all scored goals in this game as Team Canada looks ahead to the Olympic Hockey quarterfinals.
