Team USA is headed to the Olympic semifinals after surviving a tense quarterfinal battle with Sweden, capped by a dramatic overtime winner from Quinn Hughes.

In a game defined by razor-thin margins and elite goaltending, the Americans edged Sweden 2-1 in Milan to keep their gold medal hopes alive.

Dylan Larkin opened the scoring midway through the second period, redirecting a long-range shot from Jack Hughes after a clean face-off win.

From there, Connor Hellebuyck stood tall as Sweden pressed, weathering a late power play and a furious third-period push.

With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Mika Zibanejad tied the game for Sweden with the extra attacker on the ice, sending the quarterfinal to 3-on-3 overtime.

It didn’t take long in the extra frame. Quinn Hughes fired a shot that found its way into the net, punching Team USA’s ticket to the semifinals against Slovakia.
