What You Need To Know About The Bauer And Turcotte AHL Fight Of The Year

Most hockey fights are over in a matter of seconds, a few punches thrown but then the combatants wrestle to the ground and it’s done. But that was not the case Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg as two of the AHL’s toughest customers squared off at center ice.
Manitoba Moose defenseman Tyrel Bauer and Chicago Wolves forward Yanick Turcotte squared up and went the distance. More than a minute of absolute knuckle chucking between those two and now millions upon millions of views the world over.
While fighting is on the decline in the NHL, there’s still plenty of it to go around at the various levels of hockey.
Turcotte has made a living with his pugilistic nature, moving from the ECHL to the AHL last year and sticking with Chicago. The 29-year-old is closing in on 1,000 career penalty minutes as a professional hockey player.
Meanwhile, Bauer is a 23-year-old prospect who was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets and under NHL contract. Now in his fourth year as a professional, the 6-foot-3 defenseman has gained quite the reputation for his ability to throw big hits and often enough throw hands, too.
Sunday’s fight was actually Round 2 between the heavyweights. They had a scrap last January that lasted a similar length of time. Just like Sunday's this one saw the two combatants at center ice.
Odds are this is not the last time we’ll see these two square off as the Central Division rivalry continues to heat up between Chicago and Manitoba.
