The team plays their home games at MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. This year's campaign is led by head coach Steve Konowalchuk, who joined the program in 2024.

The Thunderbirds first took ice in Springfield, Mass., in 2016, inheriting the market when the Portland Pirates relocated. Initially affiliated with other NHL clubs, Springfield became connected with St. Louis beginning in the 2020–21 season.
Under the Blues’ umbrella, the Thunderbirds have emerged as a credible contender in the AHL, reaching the Calder Cup Final in only their second full season as the Blues’ affiliate (2021–22). They also won two conference titles (2023, 2024) and a division title (2023-24).
