San Jose Sharks' AHL Affiliate: Meet The San Jose Barracuda
The San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate is the San Jose Barracuda. Learn the team’s history, arena, and role within the Sharks’ development pipeline.

As of the 2025-26 season, the San Jose Sharks’ American Hockey League partner is the San Jose Barracuda. The Barracuda serve as the primary development squad for the Sharks, offering a nearby launch pad for prospects and rehabilitation assignments.
In 2017, Barracuda won their first Pacific Division Title. Last year, the team made it to the Calder Cup playoffs for the first time since the 2020-21 season.The current campaign is helmed by head coach John McCarthy, hired to take over in 2022.

Today, the Barracuda play home games at Tech CU Arena.
The Barracuda organization is relatively young in its current form: in 2015, the Sharks relocated their AHL franchise from Worcester, Massachusetts, to San Jose, rebranding it as the Barracuda.
Prior to that, San Jose’s affiliate history included stints with the Cleveland Barons (2001–2006) and the Worcester Sharks (2006–2015).
