Meet Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins The Pittsburgh Penguins' AHL Affiliate
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ AHL affiliate is the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins playing at Mohegan Arena and feeding talent to Pittsburgh.

Since 1999 the Pittsburgh Penguins’ primary American Hockey League partner has been the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins — the club that develops the NHL team’s prospects, provides injury call-ups and keeps a steady pipeline of talent flowing to Pittsburgh.
The WBS Penguins skate out of Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania, and wear the black-and-gold identity fans associate with the parent club.

The WBS Penguins won the two regular season titles, four division titles and three conference titles. They still work towards their first Calder Cup. The current campaign is coached by Kirk MacDonald who was named head coach in 2024 after two seasons in Dubuque.
The franchise traces deeper roots through earlier AHL lineages (its organizational history goes back to the early 1980s), but it arrived in northeastern Pennsylvania as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 1999 and has served as Pittsburgh’s chief minor-league affiliate ever since.
Over the years the team has been a regular postseason presence, producing NHL contributors and staging Calder Cup playoff runs that give local supporters plenty to cheer about.
