The New York Rangers’ primary American Hockey League partner is the Hartford Wolf Pack — the Rangers’ top development club based in Hartford, Conn. 

The Wolf Pack handle the bulk of the Rangers’ prospect pipeline, sending young forwards, defensemen and goalies up to Broadway when NHL roster needs arise. 

The partnership is one of the longer-running NHL–AHL relationships in pro hockey and remains central to how the Rangers stock their depth and test prospects against pro competition.

Hartford’s AHL franchise traces its roots back to the Providence Reds (founded 1926) and, after several relocations and renames, became the Hartford Wolf Pack when it moved to Connecticut in 1997. 

That long lineage makes the Wolf Pack one of North America’s oldest continuously operating minor-league hockey franchises — a neat historical footnote for fans tracking development paths. 

For fans, Hartford is where many Rangers names first cut their teeth in pro hockey: recent call-ups and NHL contributors such as Igor Shesterkin, Will Cuylle and others spent formative time with the Wolf Pack.
