Quebec Remparts Look To Bounce Back On Road After Tough Start
The Quebec Remparts took a pair of losses to start their season, but will now head out on a critical early-season road trip as they try to rebound.

The Quebec Remparts have had a challenging start to the 2025-26 QMJHL season, dropping two tight contests in the opening days. Most recently, the Remparts built a 2-0 lead against Chicoutimi but ultimately fell 4-3, surrendering two goals in the third period. Analysts pointed to untimely penalties and an inability to sustain the strong play from the first period as key factors in the loss.

Despite the setback, head coach Éric Veilleux remained positive, telling his players, “The way we played in the first period is the way I want us to play all the time.” (Mikaël Lalancette, Le Soleil) The game also marked a milestone for Veilleux, as it was the 800th contest of his coaching career.
One bright spot for the Remparts has been Cal Uens, the 20-year-old OHL transfer from Kingston. The veteran defenseman tallied three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in his first two QMJHL games, making an immediate impact in his new environment.
Undisciplined
The team did face discipline issues, as Maddox Dagenais and defenseman Freddy Meyer were suspended for Sunday’s home opener following a general brawl in Sherbrooke last Friday. A total of four players received one-game suspensions. Since the 2023-24 season, fighting is strictly prohibited in the QMJHL, with any player dropping the gloves being automatically ejected.
On a more positive note, Russian rookie Nikita Ovcharov scored his first QMJHL goal in his debut on Friday in Sherbrooke. Meanwhile, Sherbrooke goalie Kyan Labbé stopped 27 of 28 shots he faced and is already drawing attention as one of the top goaltender prospects ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft. With the role of number one netminder for the Phoenix and a strong roster in front of him, Labbé’s stock could continue to rise. He has already committed to Union College (NCAA) for the 2026-27 season.
One of many
Looking ahead, the Remparts embark on a three-game road trip in Abitibi, a critical stretch to regain momentum and avoid an early-season slump. “One will be done”, jokingly said Quebec’s head-coach ahead of their first road trip of the year. (Mikaël Lalancette, Le Soleil) Their first stop is Rouyn-Noranda, where fans can watch the action live and for free on FloHockey this Thursday as Quebec begins a back-to-back series against the Huskies.
Fans can watch Thursday night game for free on X, Facebook or Youtube in addition to being watched on FloHockey as usual.
The trip will conclude in Val-d’Or, where the Remparts will face off against the Foreurs in the final game of the road swing.
With young talent stepping up and the team determined to find its rhythm, this road trip could set the tone for the rest of the season.
