SUNRISE, Fla. – As Edmonton Oilers teammates Stuart Skinner and Connor McDavid shared a podium after the Pacific Division’s loss in the 2023 NHL All Star-Game, it was hard not to notice that the majority of the questions were directed towards the latter.

So what happens after an NHL team drafts a player?

The NHL continues to get younger and players are able to make an impact earlier than ever. This year's rookie class will come in with high expectations and several very well could make significant impacts on their NHL clubs. Before they can do that, however, they have to continue to prove their readiness for the long grind that is the NHL season.

Over the next five days, prospects from 29 of the NHL’s 32 teams will compete in various tournaments and series designed to help them prepare to compete for spots on NHL rosters when training camps open next week.
