Idaho Steelheads Move To Top Of ECHL Power Rankings

In this week’s very unofficial FloHockey ECHL power rankings, it’s the Steelheads who have moved into the top spot. That is thanks to a stretch of eight straight games without a regulation loss, good for best in the league.

Might the Kelly Cup be headed back to Idaho for the first time since 2007?

In this week’s very unofficial FloHockey ECHL power rankings, it’s the Steelheads who have moved into the top spot. That is thanks to a stretch of eight straight games without a regulation loss, good for best in the league.

1) Idaho Steelheads (13-2-0-1) (Last Week: 4)

The Steelheads haven’t lost in regulation since Nov. 9 and have rattled off six straight wins, including a sweep of the Allen Americans at home this past week, outscoring them 17-7 along the way.

2) Worcester Railers (14-2-1-0) (Last Week: 2)

Still statistically the top team in the league, Worcester remains in the second spot here after having a tough time with bottom-dwelling Norfolk over the weekend, including a shocking overtime loss Friday, before rebounding with a win in the extra session one night later.

3) Cincinnati Cyclones (10-1-2-1) (Last Week: 3)

It was a bit of a humbling weekend for the Cyclones, who dropped two straight games to another one of the league’s lowest-ranked teams, the Iowa Heartlanders, on the road in overtime.

4) Newfoundland Growlers (13-3-1-0) (Last Week: 1)

A common theme continues for some of the top teams, as Newfoundland also struggled against an inferior opponent in Adirondack early in the weekend, dropping their two meetings, before recovering with a nine-goal outburst in a victory at Maine on Sunday.

5) Florida Everblades (9-3-2-1) (Last Week: 9)

Florida moves up four spots after collecting four points, including a 4-2 win over Jacksonville on Friday.

6) Reading Royals (9-5-1-0) (Last Week: 8)

After falling to the Mariners to open the week, Reading got back on track with a win against Maine in Friday’s rematch, as well as an overtime triumph over Adirondack the next night.

7) Atlanta Gladiators (9-4-1-0) (Last Week: 16)

The Gladiators have been hot as of late, winning seven of their last 10. That’s a stretch that includes an undefeated week, featuring a win over Savannah and two against South Carolina.

8) Indy Fuel (10-5-1-0) (Last Week: 7)

Indy had a busy week, playing in four games and capturing four total points, which moves them down one spot this week.

A home win over Iowa on Friday was backed up with a 3-2 victory on the road in Kalamazoo two days later.

9) South Carolina Stingrays (8-4-1-1) (Last Week: 6)

Two losses during the week have the Stingrays nearly sliding out of the top 10. They captured just one point in a 4-3 shootout loss to Atlanta on Saturday.

10) Tulsa Oilers (6-5-4-0) (Last Week: 25)

It’s a big jump up for Tulsa this week thanks to a huge showing in which they took seven out of a possible eight points in the standings, which has them in a three-way tie for the fourth, and final, playoff spot in the Mountain Division.
