2022-23 ECHL Power Rankings

Newfoundland Growlers Have Reclaimed Top Spot In Rankings

While the top three teams remain unchanged in this week's installment of FloHockey's very unofficial ECHL power rankings, the order has shifted, with the Newfoundland Growlers having reclaimed the coveted top spot.

1) Newfoundland Growlers (10-0-1-0) (Last Week: 2)

Newfoundland remains undefeated in regulation and kept it that way this past week with a dominant showing over lowly Norfolk, potting 16 goals in a three-game sweep of the Admirals at home.

2) Cincinnati Cyclones (7-0-0-1) (Last Week: 3)

The Cyclones also have yet to suffer a regulation loss, and they actually were under consideration for the top spot, considering their lone defeat on the year came in a shootout and not overtime.

Alas, with only eight games played, compared to 11 for Newfoundland, they jump only to the second spot this week, having swept the Indy Fuel in a back-to-back slate at home.

3) Worcester Railers (10-1-0-0) (Last Week: 1)

Silly as it may seem to drop the Railers two spots, it's hard to justify putting them ahead of teams that have yet to lose in regulation.

The league's last undefeated team finally fell Friday night on the road to Adirondack, and then needed a shootout to get past them one night later.

4) Idaho Steelheads (7-2-0-1) (Last Week: 4)

Idaho remains in the fourth spot after an up-and-down week, one in which the Steelheads captured three out of a possible six points, winning only once on Friday night in Rapid City.

5) Wichita Thunder (7-2-1-0) (Last Week: 10)

Wichita is one of the hotter teams in the league lately, having won four straight games, which moves the Thunder up five spots in this week's power rankings. That stretch includes winning all three games of a three-in-three, including back-to-back overtime wins over Tulsa and Iowa.

6) Florida Everblades (6-2-1-0) (Last Week: 5)

The Everblades have been getting it done with goaltending, with Cam Johnson and Evan Fitzpatrick having only allowed 19 goals through the first nine games of the season.

Florida took five out of a possible eight points this week, including an overtime win over Savannah and a regulation victory against Greenville.

7) Kansas City Mavericks (6-3-1-0) (Last Week: 15)

KC has been on a scoring tear lately, including last week, when they scored eight goals against Iowa on Friday, and followed that with a six-goal outburst the following night against Tulsa.

8) Indy Fuel (6-2-1-0) (Last Week: 6)

Indy falls a few spots this week, despite an extremely strong start to its season, winning six of its first nine games.  The Fuel did drop 2-of-3 this past weekend, however, salvaging the weekend with a 2-1 win in Kalamazoo on Sunday.

9) South Carolina Stingrays (6-2-0-0) (Last Week: 7)

South Carolina also falls two spots under some similar circumstances. The Stingrays suffered a tough 5-4 loss in Jacksonville to start out their schedule last week, but they rebounded nicely with a road triumph in Savannah on Friday.

10) Reading Royals (4-4-1-0) (Last Week: 14)

Reading climbs into the top 10 thanks to three consecutive wins, including two straight on the road in Maine over the weekend.
