2021-22 ECHL Power Rankings

Reading, Toledo Finish Strong With Playoffs Ahead

Heading into the last week of the season, it’s no surprise that the top teams in the last in-season installment of FloHockey’s ECHL power rankings are mostly those who’ve already clinched a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Although there are some teams in the bottom half who have climbed a few spots thanks to finishing strong, the league’s true contenders are also those who find themselves near the top of the rankings towards the end of the year.

1) Reading (Last Week: 4)

(.699)

The Royals head into the last week of the season as the league’s hottest team, having gone eight games without a regulation loss. That includes this past week, when they pulled off the clean four-game sweep over division rivals Adirondack and Maine at home.

2) Toledo (Last Week: 1)

(.703)

Based on points percentage, the Walleye are still the best team in the league, but fall out of the number one spot based on splitting their four games this past week, including one win each against Fort Wayne and Wheeling.

3) Newfoundland (Last Week: 3)

(.664)

Newfoundland took two out of three against Cincinnati last week, posting 13 goals over that stretch.

4) Florida (Last Week: 5)

(.643)

The Everblades had their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to South Carolina, but have found an offensive groove of late, scoring 21 goals over their last five games.

5) Atlanta (Last Week: 2)

(.643)

After dropping two out of three this past week to Florida and Jacksonville and getting outscored 14-7 in the process, the Glads drop three spots in this week’s rankings.

6) Fort Wayne (Last Week: 7)

(.593)

The Komets captured four out of a possible eight points over their most recent seven-day stretch of games, including an impressive 5-3 win against Toledo on Wednesday.

7) Tulsa (Last Week: 13)

(.551)

The Oilers made a big jump this week with a strong, albeit abbreviated showing in the past week—they outscored Wichita by a whopping 14-3 margin in winning both sides of a home-and-home set.

8) Greenville (Last Week: 12)

(.537)

Fighting for their playoff lives, the Swamp Rabbits have gotten hot at the right time, now winners of three straight after sweeping their series against the Rapid City Rush.

9) Utah (Last Week: 15)

(.593)

The Grizzlies jump back into the top ten after a big performance in Idaho, winning two of the three games they played, capping it off with a 4-0 shutout win on Saturday.

10) Jacksonville (Last Week: 10)

(.579)

Jacksonville remains in tenth despite a rough week against the division’s cellar dwellers—they split a back-to-back series at home with Atlanta, and lost to South Carolina before that.
