Don Lucia To Become CCHA Commissioner

When the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) begins play after a hiatus of several years, the new commissioner will be former Minnesota Golden Gopher legend Don Lucia.

Lucia's illustrious coaching career includes over 700 wins with stints at Alaska-Fairbanks and Colorado College before his time in Minneapolis, and the 61-year-old will have his work cut out for him when the seven-team league begins play in 2021. The new members are all currently in the WCHA, which will disband in its current form after the 2020-21 season. Those teams are Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State, and Northern Michigan.

The CCHA existed previously from 1971-2013.

A press conference is scheduled this afternoon to announce Lucia.
