MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women’s hockey goaltender Kristen Campbell has been named the WCHA Goaltender of the Month for the third-consecutive month, the league announced Wednesday.

Campbell enjoyed another stellar month in net for the Badgers, going a perfect 4-0-0 in December to help UW end the first half of its season with a 21-1-0 record and a perfect 12-0-0 ledger in league play.

A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Campbell lead the league in wins (4), shutouts (2), goals-against average (0.50) and save percentage. In addition, she was tied for the NCAA lead in wins and shutouts, while her goals-against average and save percentage marks lead all NCAA netminders that started more than two games in December.

UW is off from competition this weekend before hosting Minnesota State next weekend at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop on Jan. 13 is set for 2 p.m., while the series finale on Jan. 14 will begin at 1 p.m.

You could say that Mark Johnson, head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers, and John Harrington, skipper of the Minnesota State Mavericks, know each other pretty well — and their past is definitely apropos: the two were teammates on the Miracle on Ice team which shocked the world and won gold in the 1980 Olympics.

A few hours after Michigan Tech used a three-goal first period to best Boston College, the Arizona State Sun Devils did the same against Northern Michigan.

But those three points would turn out to be just a fraction of their point total from the first day of the inaugural Ice Vegas Invitational, where physicality and speed led the way.

The Sun Devils played in front of what was virtually a home crowd as they downed the Wildcats, 7-3, on Friday night.
