They say revenge is best served on a cold sheet of ice, or something like that — which is exactly what the Bemidji State Beavers are hoping to do this weekend in Minneapolis.

The No. 6-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, 13-4-1, host a 5-9-2 Bemidji State team at Ridder Arena, in a rematch from mid-October that saw the Gophers head home with a two-game sweep.

You can stream both games of the rematch right here on FloHockey, tonight at 7 PM EST and Saturday at 5 PM.

Eleven Beavers hail from Minneapolis, and they’ll hope to snap a two-game skid in the homecoming of sorts. They face their inner-state foes, who have won each of their last eight games following a sweep by the powerhouse No. 1 Wisconsin.

“It’s always fun to play at the [University of Minnesota],” Beavers captain Emma Terres told Austin Monteith of The Bemidji Pioneer. “Especially as a senior, I’ll definitely cherish it a lot. A lot of family and friends will be there for me so I’m excited.”

The senior leads the Beavers with five goals and 11 points and had a goal against Minnesota in their 4-3 loss on October 14. The Beavers had the past eight days off, allowing them to recuperate from their 4-0 loss to St. Cloud State and better prepare for Minnesota.

They bring a 2-5-0 visiting record to Ridder, where the Gophers have struggled with a 3-4-1 record, as opposed to their perfect 10-0-0 road record.

“No question, (when) you play the Minnesota Gophers there’s a little bit of a different feel to that series,” coach Jim Scanlan told Monetieth.

Terres’ excitement, the “different feel,” and the Beavers’ eagerness could help fuel them to not only get back into the win column, but also hand a rival its first loss in eight games.

Minnesota, though, isn’t easy to beat. Not only have they won eight straight, but two of their four losses came in the first three games of the season.

The other two came prior to their current streak when No. 1 Wisconsin came to town in late October. Throw in the fact that the Gophers haven’t lost a game by more than one goal and hold a 3-1-1 overtime record, and it’s evident they don’t go away easy.

Minnesota holds the fourth-best power play in the NCAA, operating at 25 percent, which could overwhelm the 83.7 percent rate at which BSU successfully kills penalties.

“We know we’re gonna get a great effort from them, they’re really stingy in regards to allowing goals so hopefully we can get a few past them,” coach Brad Frost said Wednesday.

Motivation and confidence are running high in Minneapolis, however, with a celebration for Frost on Friday and the annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday.

Frost has maintained his optimistic attitude toward the team’s growth, which is clear given their current streak and new scoresheet contributors each week. Everyone will want to add to the offense this weekend in the always-memorable Teddy Bear Toss.

Don’t miss the rematch this weekend, which will be live-streamed right here on FloHockey.
