When the temperature drops and the air freezes, hockey fans across the U.S. and Canada turn to the ponds.

Even the NHL has gotten on board in recent years, expanding their coverage of outdoor hockey and promoting games including the Winter Classic, Heritage Classic and Stadium Series.

For some, pond hockey is finding your favorite lake and shoveling out a massive rink with snow walls and maybe self-made nets. For others, building a rink with unique aspects and dimensions works better.
