The second overall pick in the 2016 draft just scored his second hat trick.

That player is Patrik Laine, and he now has two hat tricks and a total of 11 goals in 14 NHL games. He's also the only NHL rookie to ever score two hat tricks through 14 games. His 11 goals put him in sole possession of first place for the NHL lead. Laine's teammate, Mark Scheifele, is tied with David Pastrnak at 9 and Sidney Crosby and Artem Anisimov each have 8.

Add his four assists to the mix, and Laine is living up to his self-declaration of being the best player in the 2016 draft.

Laine, 18, has been compared to a lot of past and present players, including most notably Alex Ovechkin and Teemu Selanne. The Ovechkin comparisons stem from his ability to change a game with just one flick of the stick.

The Selanne comparisons come from both being Finnish and having been drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, although Selanne's Jets were the original team and Laine's are the returned team.

His first hat trick came against 2016 No. 1 overall pick Auston Matthews in their first head-to-head game. Toronto took a 4-0 lead before Laine scored the Jets' second goal, game-tying goal and overtime winner.

Ovechkin has been a consistent 50-goal scorer and is regarded by many as the best goal-scorer of his generation. Selanne holds the NHL record for most goals by a rookie with 76 and was no slouch in scoring big-time goals.

Laine has a long way to go to reach either milestone, but one thing is for sure: He has quickly shown a knack for the putting the puck in the net.

Here are Laine's three goals for his second career hat trick.
