College hockey is in the spotlight more than ever with top players choosing to spend their time in the NCAA rather than the typical junior professional league route.
As the 2026-27 season gets rolling, a few of the top teams met at the Icebreaker tournament, leading to Bowling Green walking out the victors after defeating co-hosts Sacred Heart and Connecticut. Penn State was the fourth—they left without a win in-hand.
It was the first time the tournament was played in the Nutmeg State.
Some teams, like Dartmouth and Cornell, have yet to join the chaos but were included by USCHO.com.
Denver sits in the top spot after starting the season with two wins plus a 7-1 exhibition win over the U.S. National Under-18 Team at Magness Arena. The Pioneers will raise their 2026 championship title banner before hosting No. 2 Michigan on Friday.
