Alaska Fairbanks struck first in the opening period when Linden Burrett converted a power play, assisted by Jackson Anderson. Boston University answered later in the period, with Jack Murtagh scoring to tie the game 1-1. The Terriers carried the momentum into the second period, outshooting the Nanooks 11-9, but neither team could break the tie.
The game remained deadlocked through the third period despite chances on both ends. Boston University held a 39-26 edge in shots on goal through regulation, but Tyler Shea and Mikhail Yegorov kept their teams within one goal throughout the game.
Boston University ended the game in overtime when Lawrence scored at even strength, assisted by Jack Harvey and Carter Amico. The victory came despite Alaska Fairbanks winning 29 of 52 faceoffs and converting one of its four power-play opportunities.
