The Carolina Hurricanes moved within one win of the Stanley Cup with a 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5. Brandon Bussi continued his strong postseason play as Carolina took a 3-2 series lead.

Vegas opened the scoring on a Pavel Dorofeyev power-play goal, but Carolina answered through Jordan Staal. The captain extended his scoring streak to five consecutive Stanley Cup Final games.

The Hurricanes seized control in the second period. Andrei Svechnikov scored on the power play before Sebastian Aho added his first goal of the series to give Carolina a 3-1 advantage.

Svechnikov struck again on another power play in the third period. Dorofeyev scored late to make it 4-2, but Carolina survived a late Vegas push to secure the win.

The Hurricanes Take the 3-2 Series Advantage! - End of 3rd

CAR 4, VGK 2

The Carolina Hurricanes survive the two man advantage and win Game 5 at home. The Hurricanes are now one game away from a Stanley Cup Finals Trophy.

Brandon Bussi finished with another strong performance for Carolina, further showing why the move from Frederick Andersen to the AHL verteran might have saved their season.

Carolina Called for Delay of Game, Vegas Will Have Two Man Advantage - 2:13 3rd - 10:49 p.m. ET

CAR 4, VGK 2

Nikolaj Ehlers is called for the delay of game after putting the puck over the glass. Vegas will have a two man advantage after taking Carter Hart out of the goal.

Vegas needs a quick goal with the six on four look to stay in the game.

Vegas Makes the Game Interesting with a Goal - 6:11 3rd - 10:41 p.m. ET

CAR 4, VGK 2

The game isn't over yet! Pavel Dorofeyev scores his second goal of the game to keep Carolina fans on their toes for just a little while longer.

With just over six minutes to go, Vegas could make the game interesting with some late pressure on Brandon Bussi, who to this point has stood up to the Knights offense.

Hurricanes Score, Andrei Svechnikov Makes it Two - 8:52 3rd - 10:34 p.m. ET

CAR 4, VGK 1

The Carolina power play comes up big yet again in the series. With their sixth power play goal in the series, the Hurricanes take complete control over Game 5 and look to be headed to a 3-2 series lead.

Svechnikov puts in his second goal of the night and Vegas is unable to kill the double minor penalty.

Golden Knights Called for First Double Minor of the Series - 11:22 3rd - 10:31 p.m. ET

CAR 3, VGK 1

Mark Stone inadvertently high sticks Jalen Chatfield, but because there's blood Stone is sent to the penalty for the four minute penalty. There's never a good time for a double minor, but down two goals with 10 minutes to go in the Stanley Cup Finals is especially costly.

A penalty kill will keep Vegas in the game as time winds down. 

Vegas Called for Another Penalty - 16:37 3rd - 10:20 p.m. ET

CAR 3, VGK 1

Carolina will have their third power play of the game after Jack Eichel is called for tripping Nikolaj Ehlers. It's the third straight Vegas penalty.

If the Knights allow a goal they'll be down 4-1, which might be an insurmountable deficit. This is essentially a "must-kill" for Vegas.

Hurricanes Take Control in the Final Minutes of the Period - End of 2nd

The Vegas Golden Knights have work to do if they want to come back in Game 5 and avoid a 3-2 deficit.

Carolina Makes it 2 Goals in the 2nd - 2:09 2nd - 9:49 p.m. ET

CAR 3, VGK 1

Sebastian Aho scores his first goal of the series to put the Hurricanes up two goals toward the end of the second period. It's been a complete reversal in Game 5 from the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final in the second period.

Carter Hart, who had been playing well, has now given up two goals in the last six minutes of game time and the Knights find themselves in a hole.

Hurricanes Take the Lead on the PP - 8:02 2nd - 9:42 p.m. ET

CAR 2, VGK 1

A penalty from Brayden McNabb gives Carolina a man advantage, which Andrei Svechnikov turns into a goal off the pass from Gostisbehere. The puck goes through the legs of Carter Hart and reverses the second period woes of Carolina.

The Hurricanes now lead by one goal at home in front of their fans.

Knights William Karlsson Heads to the Locker Room - 11:20 2nd - 9:33 p.m. ET

CAR 1, VGK 1

William Karlsson leaves the game after taking a hard hit from the Hurricanes' Sean Walker during his last shift. Karlsson was favoring his left arm and will likely have it looked at.

Neither team has been able to control the puck nine minutes into the period as we remain tied at 1-1.

Hurricanes Kill the PP to Start the 2nd Period - 17:47 2nd - 9:19 p.m. ET

CAR 1, VGK 1

Carolina's power play defense remains strong and kills the Vegas man advantage to start the second period. Brandon Bussi makes a key save and Sebastian Aho is active on defense.

Vegas has dominated second periods throughout the series. Will Game 5 be the same?

Carolina Called for Penalty at End of Period - End of 1st

CAR 1, VGK 1

The Las Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes are tied at the end of the first period in yet another entertaining and competitive period.

Vegas will 1:55 left on a power play after K'Andre Miller was called for a delay of game with just seconds to go in the first period.

Carolina Ties the Game Behind Their Captain - 8:14 1st - 8:43 p.m. ET

Jordan Staal does it again! He tips in the shot off the beautiful pass from Nikolaj Ehlers and ties the game for the Hurricanes.

Staal has now scored in five consecutive games. The captain has turned back the hands of time in the Stanley Cup Final and continues his hot streak of play. He's the first player to score in five consecutive Stanley Cup Final games since 1973.

Vegas Strikes First on the PP - 13:06 1st - 8:34 p.m. ET

CAR 0, VGK 1

Jack Eichel zips the puck down the crease for Pavel Dorofeyev who gets the puck past Brandon Bussi for a power play goal and a lead early in the first period.

Vegas only has one shot on goal in the game, but it goes through the back of the net. Dorofeyev scores his first goal in seven playoff games.

Hurricanes Called for First Penalty of the Game -13:36 1st - 8:31 p.m. ET

CAR 0, VGK 0

Nikolaj Ehler sends the puck over the glass and the Carolina Hurricanes are called for the first penalty of Game 5. The Golden Knights have struggled scoring on the power play throughout the series, but have the opportunity to take a first period lead on the road.

The game is scoreless through seven minutes in Raleigh.

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals is live. Both teams are in desperate need of a win in a series that has been competitive to this point. The winner is in the driver seat for the rest of the series.

Hurricanes Officially Announce Brandon Bussi as Game 5 Starter

As expected, the Carolina Hurricanes will have former Providence Bruin Brandon Bussi start in goal. Game 5 will be Bussi's second consecutive and ever playoff start.

The Chicago Wolves enter the 2026 Calder Cup Finals on Friday, June 12 after an impressive playoff run through the Western Conference. The Carolina Hurricanes affiliate opened the postseason by eliminating the Texas Stars in five games before knocking off the Central Division champion Grand Rapids Griffin. 

Chicago then survived a hard seven games against the Colorado Eagles in the conference finasl. Led by a mix of experienced veterans and Carolina Hurricanes prospects such as Ryan Suzuki and Bradly Nadeau, the Wolves are looking to win their fourth Calder Cup Final.

Who Will be Starting at Goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes?

Game 4 starter Brandon Bussi is expected to start again in Game 5. Late saves from Bussi proved to be the difference in a 5-3 Carolina win on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes also called up goalie Amir Miftakhov from their AHL affiliate Chicago Wolves. The Wolves are playing in Game 1 of the AHL Calder Cup Finals live on FloHockey on Friday, June 12.
