The Calgary Flames (34-39-9) enter the 2026 NHL Draft with two first-round selections after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs during the 2025-26 season. 

Calgary finished eighth in the Pacific Division and closed the year with a minus-47 goal differential, but the organization remains positioned to continue adding high-end young talent through the draft.

The Flames own the No. 6 overall pick and also control Vegas’ first-round selection at the back of the draft. Calgary acquired the Golden Knights’ pick in the Noah Hanifin trade completed March 6, 2024. That additional first-rounder gives Calgary flexibility entering a draft that could significantly shape the next stage of the franchise’s rebuild.

Recent Calgary drafts have already produced several important NHL contributors. The Flames selected Zayne Parekh in 2024 after drafting Samuel Honzek in 2023 and Matt Coronato in 2021. Calgary also added Cole Reschny and Cullen Potter in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.

When Do The Calgary Flames Pick In The 2026 NHL Draft?

The Calgary Flames currently hold the No. 6 and No. 30 picks inn the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft.

Calgary secured the sixth overall pick after finishing 34-39-9 during the 2025-26 season. The Flames also own Vegas’ first-round pick overall from the Noah Hanifin trade. The Golden Knights advanced to the Western Conference Playoffs. 

NHL Mock Draft 2026: Who Will Calgary Flames Pick?

The Calgary Flames are projected to select Viggo Bjorck in the 2026 NHL Draft.

FloHockey’s latest 2026 NHL Mock Draft projects Calgary to take the Djurgårdens IF forward with the No. 6 overall selection. The mock draft described Bjorck as one of the draft’s most competitive and intelligent players.

At No. 30, the Flames are projected to take Juho Piiparinen. The 17-year-old is a strong skater with lots of power.

The Calgary Flames selected Cole Reschny in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.

Joe Nieuwendyk won the Calder Trophy in 1988, while Sergei Makarov captured the award in 1990 after his rookie season with Calgary.
