The Kitchener Rangers looked to repeat their success from earlier this week in a Friday night headliner bout with the Barrie Colts for game two of the 2026 OHL Championship Series finals.

They did, but it would take a much different journey to victory after a buzzer-beating tie goal by Barrie Colts' Kashawn Aitcheson.

Kitchener Memorial Stadium and the Rangers' faithful will provided the ambience off the ice through the final moment of the game.

On the ice, the extension of the battle that began on Wednesday, May 6 and doubled down on the Rangers taking another more step closer to potentially raising the J. Ross Robertson Cup, extending the series to 2-0.

Barrie will try to stop them in their tracks and make their own progress along the path to glory in game three.

Andonovsky Scores From The Point For The Overtime Win

After nearly an entire period of overtime hockey and very tired players, Kitchener Rangers walk away with the win thanks to an Andonovsky one-timer on the D-to-D move across the blue line.

Still searching for the game-winner of the second of this series as the players scrape the bottom of the barrel for every ounce of strength they have.

Barrie Colts were resilient and stuck with it to the bitter end. Kitchener thought they had it locked in when they scored the third goal with under three minutes remaining.

But, a high-sticking double minor gave the Colts all of the breath they needed to overwhelm the Rangers' defense and goaltender combo.

It was Aitcheson who's trip to the penalty box set up the Humphreys power play just for Chiarot to return the favor and set up Aitcheson for the game-tying.

What a game!

Aitcheson Scores With 3.6 Seconds Left! - 0:03 3rd

Captain Clutch comes into effect and Aitcheson scores after pure chaos leads to the puck bouncing to him at the backdoor on the power play right before the buzzer.

Kirsch had been rock solid, not to mention with two blocked shots by the Rangers PK unit out front. But, they couldn't get the puck out of the zone which eventually led to the scoring chance.

The Plot Thickens, Zebeski Draws High Stick - 1:27 3rd

A double-minor high sticking call came out for goal-scorer Chiarot after Zebeski grabbed his face and was left bleeding.

After a short rush into the zone, Gardiner and Andonovski collided near the post which sent the goal out of its moorings to reset the play.

Referees convened to decide whose fault it was for the net to come off, which eventually led to the faceoff staying in the Rangers zone.

The result of the faceoff was a win for the Colts. They jammed away the puck in front of Kirsch but it bounced over the net.

In the final minute, Rangers' bodies came in at the right place and right time to block shots and stymie the Colts' attacks.

Humphreys Scores On Power Play - 2:26 3rd

Aitcheson was sent to the box after sending a Rangers player to the ice and leaning into him.

That was enough to give Humphreys the time and space he needed to finally deliver a goal that he's been looking for all game. He dragged the puck around the penalty killing unit and launched it up high to beat Hrebik.

It's Humphreys' 8th goal of the playoffs.

Kitchener Holds Back Barrie - 5:00 3rd

As the last five minutes have ticked off the clock, the Rangers have kept Barrie from adding any more shots on goal.

Tied At Two With Ten To Go - 9:50 3rd

It's all tied up with half a period remaining. Shots have leaned towards Kitchener for the first two periods but now, Barrie's holding their own. They've added five to the Rangers' six in the third.

Bodies are flying as the teams try to impose their will as they look for any margin possible.

Colts Called For Hooking, Kill It Off - 15:22 3rd

What a start to the third period as the chaos continues.

Pridham and O'Reilly had another shorthanded opportunity to end the Colts power play but Pridham hit the post.

Moments later, Edgar was called for hooking to send the Rangers on their own power play. The Colts were able to come out too unscathed, killing it off.

Campbell Scores Shorty Off O'Reilly Dish - 19:32 3rd

What a beauty from the penalty killing unit, just three of them.

O'Reilly sent a pass flying across to Campbell who was able to patiently await Hrebik's move and launched the puck into the wide open net.

It's Campbell's third goal of the playoffs.

4-on-3 To Start The Third - 20:00 3rd

Kirsch was assessed for unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of the second period to open the third with a 4-on-3 situation.

Barrie Maintains Lead After Brief Tie - End of 2nd

It was an eventful period that was capped off with even more fireworks. Woolley received a penalty as the officials sent the teams off the ice after the final whistle.

Although Kitchener added 12 shots on goal in the middle frame, it was the Colts who felt in control. They were credited with just six of their own.

They're in a good spot, though, heading into the final period holding onto a lead.

Collision Near Hrebik's Crease Draws Out 4 On 4 - 1:00 2nd

Aitcheson and O'Reilly collided on top of Hrebik, a culmination of the physicality picking up over the past few minutes as the offensive chances have been few and far between.

Humphreys and Zebeski were sent to the box for roughing after the whistle.

Hemming Bounces Back, Scores - 8:41 2nd

The Colts make it interesting and retake the lead. They quickly created an offensive chance the other way just seconds after the Rangers' first goal.

Wilmott passed it to Emil Hemming who was able to beat Kirsch glove side for the lead.

Rangers Ties It Up, Chiarot Stuffs It In - 9:50 2nd

Ellinas threw the puck in down low in the circle and Chiarot cleaned up the trash, flicking the puck in under Hrebik.

O'Reilly Sent Into The Boards, Colts Kill It Off - 10:20 2nd

Eliasson heads to the box to put the Rangers on the power play, 34.15%. The Colts penalty killers are 73.8%.

Edwards had a great chance but it was knocked away.

Humphreys was a top choice for the unit, although he was unable to convert.

Although they haven't been able to beat Kirsch again, the Colts sent a flurry of shots on. It only took four minutes of the second period to make the offensive chances even.

Barrie Leads After One - End of 1st

It looked like the Rangers were bound to score after they quickly picked things back up where they left off. Over time, the Barrie Colts found more comfort, though.

The visiting team were able to see sparse chances and eventually earned a gritty one fighting for the rebound out in front of the net.

Rangers have led the way in possession, at the dot, and in shots on goal.

After Kirsch was rock solid for nearly the entire period, it was a second chance opportunity for Gardiner out front of the net. He banged home the initial delivery by Crombie who left him the puck at the doorstep.

Kirsch Stops Schneid Breakaway - 4:51 1st

Still zeros across the board as both teams search for their first goal. Schneid found a breakaway, able to get behind the Rangers defense for the first time but Kirsch was there to make the move from right to left and stop the puck.

Kirsch Covers von Richter Attempt - 12:00 1st

Barrie's best attempt of the period so far came from von Richter trying to force the loose puck in under Kirsch. The goaltender was able to cover up, keeping it out as the Colts add just a third shot on goal.

Kitchener Puts Up First Five Shots - 15:40 1st

It didn't take long for the Rangers to get back to their game, pressing the offensive zone and forcing Hrebik to make the stop.

Who else but Humphreys to get the first shot on goal on the board, throwing a backhand attempt up on Hrebik. 

Romano had his own from the top of the circle, which was turned away with ease.

Salandra is out of the lineup tonight after getting hurt in game one, joining top scorer Cole Beaudoin.

Unsurprisingly, Kirsch and Hrebik are back between the pipes.

Kirsch is 13-2, with a 2.36 GAA and .896 SV% in the playoffs.

Hrebik is 12-5, with a 2.59 GAA and .922 SV% in the playoffs.
