Ten years after taking Auston Matthews No. 1, the Toronto Maple Leafs have the top pick again in 2026.

The No. 1 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft belongs to a Canadian team — just not the Canadian team that had the best odds. The Maple Leafs won the top pick during the NHL Draft lottery with an 8.5% chance, beating Vancouver, the league’s worst team, which had an 18.5% chance to land the selection.

The Canucks will pick No. 3, while the San Jose Sharks — who nearly made the playoffs this season after taking Macklin Celebrini No. 1 in 2024 — will draft No. 2.
