North Dakota advanced to the Sioux Falls Regional final with a 3-0 win over Merrimack on Thursday night, riding a shutout from Jan Spunar and two goals from Cody Croal.

Dylan James added a third-period goal for the Fighting Hawks, who controlled much of the game and never allowed Merrimack to break through.

Max Lundgren kept the Warriors in it for long stretches, but Merrimack’s Hockey East title run came to an end against one of the top teams in the country.

The win sets up a meeting with Quinnipiac for UND, that will take place on March 28.

Recap the game below as it happened.

End Of Game: UND Wins

Final: UND 3, Merrimack 0

Jan Spunar pitches a shutout, and North Dakota wins 2-0 against the upstart Merrimack team who won the Hockey East.

Max Lundgren was as good as he could be against an elite Fighting Hawks offense.

UND has a date with Quinnipiac this weekend in the Sioux Falls Regional final.

UND Empty-Netter - 3rd, 0:44

UND 3, Merrimack 0

Cody Croal scores his second of the game after Merrimack pulls the goalie.

He sent the puck the entirety of the ice and into the net.

Five Minutes Left - 3rd, 5:49

UND 2, Merrimack 0

North Dakota is nursing a 2-0 lead, with only a few minutes to go and a regional final on the line.

UND Scores - 3rd, 15:51

UND 2, Merrimack 0

Finally, North Dakota breaks through and adds another goal, as a very green fanbase in attendance breathes a sigh of relief.

Dylan James is credited with the goal.

That is the first goal since the first period.

Third Period Begins - 3rd, 20:00

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Just 20 minutes remain. One team will advance from the Sioux Falls Regional for an opportunity to face Quinnipiac.

Second Period Ends

UND 1, Merrimack 0

It's still a 1-0 game after periods, as the Fighting Hawks hold onto their slim lead.

UND dominated the first 10 minutes of the period before Merrimack finally found their footing after nearly 30 minutes of game time.

Cody Croal's goal is the difference heading into the third frame.

Merrimack Pushing - 2nd, 3:29

UND 1, Merrimack 0

After nearly 12 minutes of this period that seemed exceedingly one-sided, as UND racked up 10+ shots, Merrimack have finally settled into their game in the last few shifts.

Merrimack No-Goal - 2nd, 8:17

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Merrimack thought they had a goal, but the ref had blown the play dead as the puck had been covered by Jan Spunar.

The no-goal came after a flurry of shots by Merrrimack, their best opportunities of the game so far.

UND Elite Passing - 2nd, 14:25

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Despite the single goal, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks have displayed their elite passing this game, lots of give-and-go, lots of movement in the Merrimack end.

Feels like it's a only a matter of time before one slips past Max Lundgren (who has been quite good).

Second Period Begins - 2nd, 20:00

UND 1, Merrimack 0

The teams switch sides and the second frame begins.

First Period Ends

UND 1, Merrimack 0

UND take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The Fighting Hawks had three power plays in the first period.

Both teams ended up with 11 shots, but the biggest discrepancy was faceoff wins, with UND winning 12 vs. Merrimack's six.

Lundgren Keeping Merrimack In Game - 1st, 8:16

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Max Lundgren has dispatched seven North Dakota shots so far, yielding one goal. He's the primary reason this is only a 1-0 game.

UND have only allowed four shots by Merrimack so far.

Merrimack Power Play - 1st, 11:50

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Merrimack will get their best chance to tie this up so far.

Two minutes for holding on Bennett Zmolek of UND.

North Dakota Scores - 1st, 16:08

UND 1, Merrimack 0

Cody Croal corrals the rebound and puts the puck past Max Lundgren.

The Fighting Hawks have dominated this game early, in possession and shots.

UND Power Play - 1st, 18:08

UND 0, Merrimack 0

Two minutes for holding on Filip Nordberg of Merrimack.

Game Begins - 1st, 20:00

UND 0, Merrimack 0

We're underway in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
