Top NHL Draft Prospect Ethan Belchetz Out Indefinitely With Injury
Top NHL Draft Prospect Ethan Belchetz Out Indefinitely With Injury
Windsor Spitfires star Ethan Belchetz is out indefinitely after sustaining a broken clavicle. The top NHL Draft prospect is expected to undergo surgery.

Ethan Belchetz has been among the top draft-eligible forwards in the OHL this season. The projected top-15 pick has been a critical piece to the Windsor Spitfires offense, but will be sidelined for a significant period of time after sustaining a broken clavicle Tuesday.

The Spitfires announced Wednesday that the star winger is going to be out “indefinitely” after sustaining the injury. Upon further medical evaluation, it was determined that the injury would require surgery.
Though the team has not put a timeline on the injury for Belchetz, there is only a few weeks remaining in the regular season. The Spitfires are expected to make a deeper run in the playoffs, but it seems like an injury requiring surgery would likely leave them without Belchetz for an extended period and makes his availability for the playoffs seem less likely.

Belchetz is a 6-foot-5 power winger with a great shot. He had 34 goals this season and 59 points in 57 games for Windsor. Belchetz was also a participant in the CHL USA Prospects Challenge and Connor McDavid Top Prospects Game this season.
NHL Central Scouting has Belchetz ranked No. 9 among North American skaters at the mid-term, and most outlets project him between there and No. 15 on their rankings.
He is currently third in points for the Spitfires, trailing only Liam Greentree (NYR) and veteran defenseman Carson Woodall. His 34 goals are most on the team.
The Spits have been chasing down the Kitchener Rangers for the top spot in the Western Conference and have high expectations for the postseason.
Meanwhile, Belchetz will miss out on critical time to continue proving he belongs in the conversation for the top 10 of the 2026 NHL Draft. The postseason is a time where players can really separate themselves from some of their peers with impressive performances in a critical time.
The good news is that the team has not definitively declared Belchetz’s season as being over, but the odds seem pretty great for him to be able to be a meaningful contributor to the team’s J. Ross Robertson Cup hopes.
Windsor's next game without their talented scorer will be Saturday against the Flint Firebirds.
