Olympic women's hockey took center stage at Milan Cortina 2026 on Feb. 10 with Team USA and Team Canada facing off in a Tuesday afternoon puck drop for points in the preliminary round.

USA remained undefeated while Canada was forced to swallow their first preliminary round loss and suffered a first-ever shutout in the Olympics. USA and Canada were the only two teams remaining that have only allowed one goal total in preliminary play heading into the game. Czechia was the beneficiary in both cases.

The last time the two met was in the Rivalry Series in December. The red, white, and blue walked away from all four games victorious—outscoring the Canadians 24-7.

This preliminary round game was a chance for the northern neighbors a chance to chip away at redemption with lower stakes, but they had to try it without elite veteran Marie-Philip Poulin.

The five-time Olympian suffered a lower body injury during Canada's 5-1 victory over Czechia on Monday after taking a hit into the boards. She was day-to-day at the moment.

With just eight seconds left in the period, Watts got squished into the wall by Taylor Heise to send Canada on their second power play of the game.

Earlier in the period, one of Canada's best chances came from a Spooner shot on Frankel to add Canada's 9th shot with just two minutes remaining in the period. Stacey created chances with her speed but there was little support and no shots on goal.

  • USA: 16
  • CAN: 5

Review And Challenge Result In Goal And Power Play For USA - 18:39 2nd

USA 3, CAN 0

After it was initially called no goal on the ice, a chaotic play in the crease resulted in the horn going off and prompting another review by the officials.

Kirsten Simms and Tessa Janecke were in Desbiens face with a little help from Canada's defenders, O'Neill and Shelton.

After review, it was determined as a goal.

After the official announcement, Team Canada challenged the play for goaltender interference.

The coaches challenge was deemed unsuccessful and therefore Canada goes down a player due to delay of game. Gosling goes to the box.

USA 1, CAN 0

Team USA's offense has been aggressive out of the gates, with already 9 shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. Only 2 the other way.

Turnbull boarded one of the American forwards to send out a delayed penalty call.

Game Preview: USA vs Canada Women's Hockey

Team USA wraps up preliminary round play against their toughest opponent and intense rival. Canada, after a slow start due to a rescheduled game, has gotten up to pace with an experienced, PWHL-packed roster.

USA is 3-0, securing a second five goal shutout in a row on Monday against Switzerland. Canada is 2-0, a game behind due to the postponement of Finland's game to Feb. 12.
