Friday night’s matchup between the Québec Remparts and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada unfolded within a very specific context: two teams trending upward, already safely in playoff territory, but now focused on an equally critical objective — playoff positioning and first-round matchups.

Beyond the 5–3 final score in favor of the Armada, the game served primarily as a revealing benchmark. It confirmed several trends that had been emerging in recent weeks and highlighted the priorities that will shape both teams as the regular season enters its final phase.

Armada finally playing up to its status

Throughout the season, the Armada had been viewed as a powerhouse on paper. On Friday, they looked far more like one on the ice. Without overwhelming the Remparts, Blainville-Boisbriand once again demonstrated its ability to manage key moments and impose its structure when it mattered most.

Despite a difficult opening frame — allowing two power-play goals in the first period — the Armada never lost its composure. Their structure remained intact, and their offensive depth ultimately made the difference. Vincent Desjardins (three goals, one assist) embodied that efficiency, supported by Bill Zonnon (two assists) and Matéo Nobert (three assists), reinforcing the idea that the Armada’s attack does not rely on a single line.

This win fits into a stretch where Blainville-Boisbriand has controlled games through improved defensive discipline and more consistent five-on-five play. Even with absences in the lineup and a backup goaltender starting the game, the Armada found solutions — a telling sign of a team growing increasingly confident in its identity.

Remparts competitive, but still hindered by discipline

For the Remparts, the game confirmed genuine progress, while also underlining some familiar shortcomings. Offensively, Québec showed it can go toe-to-toe with the league’s top teams. On the power play, the Remparts were particularly sharp (2-for-3), capitalizing on their opportunities with key contributions from Maddox Dagenais, Egan Beveridge, and Nathan Quinn.

That same discipline advantage on offense, however, proved costly on the other side of the equation. The Armada struck on a pivotal third-period power play to regain the lead, once again highlighting that Québec remains among the most penalized teams in the league — a factor that could weigh heavily once the playoffs begin.

In goal, backup netminder Lelièvre made several key saves that kept the Remparts within reach, notably early in the third period, but sustained pressure from the Armada eventually translated onto the scoreboard.

A revealing matchup more than just a result

With only a few points separating the two teams in the standings, this game did not redefine the hierarchy — but it did clarify it. The Armada continues to show that all the necessary pieces are coming together for a serious and composed playoff push. The Remparts, meanwhile, have demonstrated they can compete with top-tier opponents, provided they tighten up on the details — particularly penalty management.

As the regular season enters its final stretch, matchups like this one highlight a reality well established in the QMJHL: success in the playoffs begins not simply with qualification, but with where — and against whom — a team starts its spring journey.
