The AHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association announced a new five-year collective bargaining agreement Wednesday morning.

That announcement follows ratification of the CBA by the AHL board of governors and PHPA player membership. Set to expire August 31, 2030, the new agreement will take the AHL through the 2029-30 season. The two sides' previous agreement had expired this past August but they agreed to proceed with this season while negotiating toward a new deal. This agreement is the first between AHL president and CEO Scott Howson and PHPA executive director Brian Ramsay.

Additional details on any potential changes in the new CBA were not disclosed.

This deal ensures labor peace at the top three tiers of North American hockey into 2030.  Last summer the NHL and the NHLPA announced a new CBA that will take effect this September and extend through the 2029-30 season. Following a brief strike, the ECHL and the PHPA ratified a new CBA deal last month that will also run through the 2029-30 campaign.
