The 26-year-old Puustinen had 7-19-26 in 35 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, good for second on the team. After playing 13 games with Pittsburgh last season, however, he had been in the AHL this season. His Pittsburgh tenure featured 66 NHL games and 7-17-24 after he came to the organization as a 2019 seventh-round selection. The Avs have assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles.
This deal marks the latest move that has taken a top-scoring forward off the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton roster. Sam Poulin, Danton Heinen, and Phil Tomasino have all left the Pittsburgh organization after spending a portion of this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
For Solovyov, 25, this move is his second of the season. He came to the Avalanche via waivers from the Calgary Flames last Oct. 3 and split this season between the Avs and the Eagles. He had 1-2-3 in 16 games with the Avalanche while also making three appearances for the Eagles. Before coming to Colorado last fall, he spent 229 games at the AHL level in the Calgary organization. The Flames selected him in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Pittsburgh has not announced whether Solovyov will remain on its roster or report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Both Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the Eagles are among the AHL’s top powers this season. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (26-11-1-2) is tied for the Eastern Conference lead with the Providence Bruins at 55 points. They next are in action Wednesday when the Belleville Senators visit. With a 24-8-1-2 mark, the Eagles are tied with the Ontario Reign for second place in the Western Conference. They resume play Wednesday for the first of back-to-back road games against the Bakersfield Condors.
