Chicago Wolves Forward Ivan Ryabkin Reassigned To QMJHL
The Carolina Hurricanes have reassigned forward Ivan Ryabkin from the AHL's Chicago Wolves to the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.

Ivan Ryabkin got a taste of the AHL, but now it’s off to the QMJHL for the Carolina Hurricanes prospect.
After the 18-year-old forward managed just 1-6-7 in 25 games with the Chicago Wolves this season, Carolina has reassigned him to the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.

Carolina selected Ryabkin in the second round of this past June’s NHL Draft and had elected to start him with Chicago this season. Charlottetown took Ryabkin as the 21st pick in the CHL Import Draft last summer as well.

Ryabkin had to make the dramatic jump from the USHL, where he had played part of last season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and had finished with 19-11-30 in 27 games. He had come to Muskegon after starting the season in Russia, splitting time in the Dynamo Moscow system between the KHL, VHL, and MHL levels.
Ryabkin will be eligible to rejoin the Wolves when Charlottetown’s season ends. The Islanders are fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 17-14-2-5 record. They next play Friday night when they host the Halifax Mooseheads (7 pm AT/6 pm ET; FloHockey).
Chicago has jumped to second in the Central Division at 14-8-4-4. The team has a 3-in-3 weekend ahead that begins Friday night when they visit the Rockford IceHogs (8 pm ET/7 pm CT; FloHockey). Home games against the Texas Stars (Saturday) and Manitoba Moose (Sunday) will follow.
Ryabkin was one of two teenagers to begin the season with Chicago. Defenseman Dominik Badinka, who turned 20 on Nov. 27, remains with the Wolves and has 3-2-5 in 27 appearances. Carolina took him in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, and he already had two seasons of pro experiences in the SHL with the Malmö Redhawks before joining Chicago late last season.
Ryabkin’s reassignment is the third major move for the Wolves this week. On Monday the Hurricanes acquired defenseman Juuso Välimäki from the Utah Mammoth for future considerations and sent him to the Wolves. Välimäki, 27, has played 271 NHL games and should be a significant addition to the Chicago backend. He had 1-2-3 in three appearances with the Tucson Roadrunners before the move. Defenseman Gavin Bayreuther also returned to the Wolves on loan from Carolina.
