The United States and Sweden, the top two teams in Group A at the World Junior Championship, will play Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. ET in their fourth and final preliminary-round game.

Both teams enter with nine points after winning their first three games. Sweden holds the top spot in the group with a slight edge in goal differential, scoring 15 goals and allowing five. The United States has scored 14 goals and allowed nine.

Sweden opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Slovakia, followed by a 4-2 victory against Switzerland and an 8-1 rout of Germany. The United States defeated Germany 6-3, Switzerland 2-1 and Slovakia 6-5.

Sweden, the United States and Canada have already clinched quarterfinal berths, but the United States-Sweden matchup will determine Group A positioning.

All games during 2026 World Juniors tournament will be broadcast live on the NHL Network for viewers in the US. 

The network will air live game telecasts of the World Junior Championships plus analysis, highlights, and interviews about the tournament. Select games will be available on ESPN+.
