Team Canada's journey along the road to a potential medal in the 2026 World Juniors continued with a Monday night puck drop against a struggling Denmark. 

It all picked back up at 8:30 p.m. ET at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis, MN. A win would mean an easier path through the Quarterfinals and Semifinals and becomes even more important after Czechia's overtime win over Finland.

Canada opened the tournament with a 7-5 win over Czechia, the same nation that ended their last two tournaments in the quarterfinals.

They followed it with an overtime win over Latvia, a team they lost to in the round robin stage in 2025.

Top 2026 NHL draft prospect Keaton Verhoeff made his World Juniors debut during the game, while Gavin McKenna earned a hat trick.

Denmark's first two games were losses against Finland, falling 2-6, and Czechia, 2-7.

Aitcheson Scores Bar Down Goal - 5:44 3rd

After working hard for much of the game, Canada's third line got their goal finally with O'Reilly and Desnoyers connecting to Aitcheson for the eighth.

McKenna Fleeces Tiedjen For The Hat Trick - 14:15 3rd

CAN 7, DEN 1

Hage made a pass from the neutral zone to Gavin McKenna busting into Denmark's zone to lay down a beautiful backhand-forehand move after faking the shot above the circle to add another goal and make it a hat trick.

Misa Delivers From The Doorstep - 15:15 3rd

CAN 6, DEN 1

Martone collected the puck behind the net for a reverse feed to Michael Misa who was at the short side and was able to finish, elevating the puck to the corner for Canada's sixth goal of the night.

Final Frame Started - 19:38 3rd

And we're off to the final twenty minutes.

Misa is already back in Tiedjen's face in the first minute, forcing him to make a nice save.

End of 2nd: Denmark Makes Late Offensive Push, Canada Still Dominating

Canada was getting run around their own end as Brundgaard, Linde, and Schioldan were able to piece together a few offensive chances.

The Danish were able to stall things out in the middle period with a strong bounce back by Tiedjen after the first period's barrage. 

Shots came from just about everyone in the red and white but it's been a challenge for them to get the puck through Denmark's bodies. It's still 5 to 1, though, and this Canadian team is elite.

McKenna Nets His Second of the Game - 4:57 2nd

After half a period of Tiedjen making all of the stops, it took a Gavin McKenna rocket off the post, threading the needle through his pad and glove to reopen the scoring.

Tiedjen Stands Strong To End Penalty Kill - 6:32 2nd

Canada has been relentless in throwing pucks towards Denmark's netminder, calling on him to make some great saves under high pressure from their best attackers.

Hage and Misa continue to put on a show but Hage found the post, leaving the puck to trickle across the crease before being cleared and allowing Denmark to escape relatively unscathed.

Delay of Game Sends Canada Back On PP - 9:49 2nd

Tristan Petersen launched the puck out of play and was called for delay of game. Canada is 2-for-2 with two shots on the power play so far.

Denmark On Power Play After Brady Martin Trip - 13:32 2nd

Brady Martin was called for tripping on the next play following Martone's goal.

Canada Power Play Unit Comes Out After Slash, Martone Scores - 13:40 2nd

Parekh took a slash by Amondsen, a whipcrack that echoed across the arena. After setting up shop in Denmark's end, the top line scored with Porter Martone sealing the deal.

Michael Misa was quarterbacking, tossing it out to Parekh and then to Martone under the dot for a beautiful one-timer.

Double Minor Cancelled After Beaudoin Caught Himself With Stick - 15:15 2nd

CAN 3, DEN 1

Cole Beaudoin caught himself with a high stick after it got stuck in the boards which forced a delayed penalty that lasted well over a minute before the Danes were able to take possession. 

After a short review by the officials, without a Denmark challenge, the penalty was cancelled.

Denmark's Klyvo (FLA) Scores To Open 2nd - 19:32 2nd

CAN 3, DEN 1

On a broken play, Mads Klyvo (FLA) forces a turnover deep in Canada's zone and is able to elevate the puck on the short side over George's shoulder.

Its only Denmark's second shot of the game—one that Canada's defense wish they had back.

End of 1st: Canada Settled In With 3 Goal Lead

Gavin McKenna had a wide open net at the buzzer but missed it wide by toe hooking it through the backside.

They've been running on all cylinders after the first twenty minutes. The main player we haven't seen perform yet is Carter George... but that's not quite his fault.

Great contributions from Verhoeff, Aitcheson and the usual names have things feeling pretty comfortable right now for Canada.

Aitcheson Showing Up Everywhere - 6:30 1st

Team Canada is looking very comfortable, holding Denmark deep in their zone for much of the first period. Aitcheson has been a huge part of keeping the puck alive and making physical moves both ways.

Around the halfway point of the period, Aitcheson laid a nice hip check onto Oliver Larsen.

Parekh Piles On, Adds A Third - 9:57 1st

Peterson's blade came off and created an opportunity for Canada to move the puck quickly down the ice with a man advantage.

A quick pass from Cole Beaudoin to Caleb Desnoyers at the blue line, who found Zayne Parekh in the slot and before you know it the puck's behind Patrick Tiedjen.

Shots are 10-1 Canada.

Iginla Sets Up Cootes For The Second Goal - 11:36 1st

On a neutral zone turnover, Iginla rushes into Denmark's zone drawing three defenders and creating a huge opportunity for Cootes to break into the slot and launch the puck up and into the back of the net.

Keaton Verhoeff's contributions are already showing up on the box score, earning an assist on the shot.

Gavin McKenna Opens Scoring On Power Play For Canada - 16:43 1st

Viggo Damgaard was called for holding to send Canada on their first power play of the game. Gavin McKenna worked with Brady Martin and Michael Hage to light the lamp just over three minutes into the game.
