ECHL Teams Postpone Games Amid Players Strike

All ECHL games scheduled on Friday, December 26 and Saturday, December 27 have been postponed as the league and Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) remain at an impasse over a new collective bargaining agreement.

The stoppage follows a strike authorization mandate issued by the union on December 18.

On Monday, December 22, the PHPA published an announcement to X that its ECHL membership served a strike notice to the league effective Friday, December 26.

The PHPA Executive Director Brian Ramsey stated "we are asking for basic standards around health, safety, and working conditions that allow the players to remain healthy, compete at a high level and build sustainable professional careers."

In a statement published at 12:40 p.m. ET on December 26, the ECHL expressed regret over the postponement and characterized the union's demands as "unworkable."

In response to the union's claims, the ECHL published detailed information to their website addressing each of the concerns.

Read their statement below or visit the ECHL's website for a detailed response:

"Unfortunately, union leaders deprived players of the opportunity to vote on our last, best, and final offer - an offer that would dramatically raise player salaries by 20 percent in the first year, boost the per-diem rate, guarantee more off days, and expand the top-of-the-line equipment available to players. We did everything possible to avoid this outcome, and hope that the union leadership will drop its unworkable scheduling demands, let the players vote on our offer, and make it possible for players to return to work."
