The holiday break is here and as USHL teams approach or reach the 30-game mark, many consider this the halfway point. The league returns to action on Dec. 27 with eight games.

From top-scoring forwards Ryan Rucinski and Cooper Simpson to Fargo's tandem between the pipes combining for 2.32 GAA and .914 save percentage—the USHL has been delivering talent on all fronts in the first half of the season.

Here are five of the USHL’s top storylines so far.

The Race Out East

The Eastern Conference standings are already a logjam, and as was the case last season, it’ll be a fascinating race down the stretch.

Green Bay sits atop the conference with 41 points, while Muskegon and Youngstown sit tied with 40. Green Bay, Muskegon and Youngstown have played 29, 27 and 28 games respectively. Dubuque is right behind with 37 points as well, and the Fighting Saints have won three straight.

No USHL team entered the break hotter than Green Bay, as the Gamblers have won 11 straight. Youngstown is also 8-1-0-1 over its past 10 and fifth-place Cedar Rapids has points in eight of its past 10.

Five of the top six and seven of the league’s top 10 teams (based on win percentage) call the Eastern Conference home.

Youngstown’s 1-2 Punch With Rucinski, Simpson

Youngstown’s lineup features two of the USHL’s most dynamic forwards this season in Cooper Simpson (BOS) and Ryan Rucinski (BUF).

Simpson ranks second in the USHL with 37 points while Rucinski is one behind at 36. Rucinski ranks fifth in the league with 17 goals, as the Youngstown captain has eight over his past 10 games. His 10 power-play tallies are also tied atop the USHL, and Simpson leads the way with 22 power-play points.

Points For Pelletier

Lincoln forward Alex Pelletier leads the USHL in goals (25) and points (39) at the break. The Boston College commit racked up 25 points (15-10-25) over his final 13 games and has earned 14 (8-6-14) of his 39 points on the power play.

Pelletier is averaging 1.63 points per game and has a pair of hat tricks on his resume. He’s also a plus-15, which is tied for fifth among USHL skaters. He racked up 37 points (16-21-37) over 60 games last season.

Scoring Saints

Dubuque has out-scored its opponents 126-82 through 27 games. The 126 goals lead the USHL the Fighting Saints have scored four or more goals in 15 of their first 27 games.

Dubuque’s lineup features five double-digit goal scorers, including Masun Fleece and Teddy Merrill – who rank sixth and seventh among USHL skaters with 16 and 15. Dubuque also owns the USHL’s top power play, as the Fighting Saints have converted 29 of their 95 opportunities (30.5%). Youngstown is the next closest team at 28.4%.

Force In The Crease

Fargo has scored the USHL’s fourth-fewest goals (70) this season. However, the Force have allowed the third fewest (74) and sit second in the Western Conference with 32 points.

Ajay White ranks fourth among USHL goaltenders in GAA (2.22) and seventh in save percentage (.914), while Alan Lendak ranks sixth in both categories at 2.45 and .915. The two have stopped 671 of the 734 shots fired their way this season and have a combined 2.32 GAA and .914 save percentage. Lendak and White each have a shutout as well.
