FloHockey AHL Power Rankings: Grand Rapids Griffins Stay Tops
The Grand Rapids Griffins continue to own the top spot in this week's FloHockey AHL Power Rankings.

Patrick Williams again will deliver the FloHockey AHL Power Rankings throughout the regular season.
For the third week in row, the Grand Rapids Griffins will continue their grip on the top spot in the Power Rankings. They have managed to withstand goaltending upheaval and even reinforced themselves at the position by adding one of the top goaltenders in AHL history to their roster. They have plenty of close competition, however, as the regular season’s quarter point begins to appear on the horizon for teams around the AHL.
Here is how this week’s top-10 looks.
1) Grand Rapids Griffins (--)
Nothing has been able to slow down the Griffins, not even losing their top two goaltenders. At 10-0-0-1, they remain the only undefeated team in regulation across both the NHL and AHL this season. With Sebastian Cossa and Michal Postava out, the Griffins have turned to Carter Gylander and AHL mainstay Dustin Tokarski in net. They handled the visiting Toronto Marlies in a pair of wins and have had a quiet schedule of late. That will change this week, especially with the Charlotte Checkers coming to town Friday and Saturday.
2) Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (+3)
The Penguins shoot up to second overall this week thanks to a four-game winning streak. They swept the Bridgeport Islanders in a home-and-home series and then knocked off the visiting Springfield Thunderbirds last Saturday. Rutger McGroarty made his season debut and picked up a goal while Joel Blomqvist made 23 stops in his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton season debut as well. With the Pittsburgh Penguins in Stockholm last week, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton had to get by without the possibility of any reinforcements and more than handled that challenge with three games in four days. They have a quick trip to New England this week that features another clash with the Providence Bruins on Saturday.

3) Providence Bruins (--)
The P-Bruins ran into Laval’s Jacob Fowler to close out their weekend and were shut out. Still, they picked up overtime wins at home against the Hartford Wolf Pack and Utica Comets for a solid week. With top threats Matěj Blümel, Alex Steeves, and Riley Tufte all on recall to the Boston Bruins, Providence’s offensive potency will get a test.
4) Colorado Eagles (-1)
A 3-0 shutout by Tucson Roadrunners goaltender Jaxson Stauber denied the Eagles a perfect four-game homestand. But they do continue to smother opponents and held the Roadrunners to just 20 shots in that game last Saturday. Tristen Nielsen has emerged as one of the top offseason signings in the league. After 15 goals last season with the Abbotsford Canucks, he has planted nine goals in 16 games for the Eagles while also earning an upgrade to an NHL contract with the parent Colorado Avalanche. A rather light November schedule continues with a quick two-game weekend trip to Tucson.
5) Milwaukee Admirals (-1)
As with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Admirals had to go it alone last week with the Nashville Predators over in Stockholm. They came through it well with two wins in a trio of Central Division home match-ups. They rebounded from a loss to the Manitoba Moose to knock off the Texas Stars the following night. Joakim Kemell is back from Nashville while Zach L’Heureux remains with the parent club. Now the Admirals head out west for the second time this season when they visit the Henderson Silver Knights on Friday and Saturday.
6) Laval Rocket (--)
After a misstep at Springfield opened their week, the Rocket picked up wins at Hartford and Providence. Fowler and Kaapo Kähkönen have been exceptional in net and have combined to go nine consecutive games allowing two or fewer goals. With that goaltending duo, the Rocket have a strong chance to win each night. They face the Syracuse Crunch at Place Bell on Wednesday before a Friday-Saturday home set with the Belleville Senators.

7) Hershey Bears (NR)
Here come the Bears, who rejoin the top-10 this week after sweeping a 3-in-3 weekend that featured stops at Syracuse and Lehigh Valley before they finished off the Phantoms in overtime this past Sunday afternoon. With most of the core from their back-to-back Calder Cup titles and an influx of prospects, many expected this season to be something of a rebuilding year in Hershey. It has been, but the wins have continued to flow. A two-game trip out to Cleveland awaits the Bears next.
8) Rochester Americans (--)
Even with the usual turmoil in Buffalo, the Amerks just keep going about their business. A quick jaunt to Connecticut produced wins against Hartford and Bridgeport. Those victories made up for a home loss to Belleville in which goaltender Devon Levi was pulled after allowing five goals. It has been a rather difficult start for Levi, the Amerks’ rock in net for much of the past two seasons. The Amerks are back on the road Wednesday night at Lehigh Valley.

9) Charlotte Checkers (NR)
Back in the top-10 once again the Checkers, who won a pair of weekend games at Iowa and own a four-game winning streak. Kirill Gerasimyuk, an intriguing fifth-round pick who spent last season in the VHL, secured his first North American shutout with a 17-save effort last Saturday. With veteran Louis Domingue having joined the Checkers earlier this month, plus Gerasimyuk, Kevin Mandolese and Cooper Black, they have something more akin to a goaltending staff at the moment. It’s working, though, and the Checkers have given themselves ample crease insurance. This weekend’s trip to Grand Rapids is a major test.
10) Lehigh Valley Phantoms (--)
Running into the Bears slowed down the Phantoms a bit, but they pounded Springfield at home, 7-3, last Friday and got a good bounce-back effort from Aleksei Kolosov to pick up a point that closed out a 3-in-3 weekend. The Philadelphia Flyers’ swap with the Ottawa Senators cost the Phantoms defenseman Dennis Gilbert. Now Lehigh Valley must wait to see whether the return, defenseman Max Guenette, will clear waivers. They will know by Wednesday when the Amerks come to PPL Center. Philadelphia has been busy reworking the organizational depth chart with Guenette’s addition as well as Christian Kyrou coming over from Texas to join Lehigh Valley earlier.
