Mooseheads, Huskies Clash in Halloween Showdown Between QMJHL Heavyweights
Halifax Mooseheads and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies set for battle in a QMJHL Halloween Clash.

The Halloween lights won’t be the only thing glowing in Rouyn-Noranda on Friday night — two of the QMJHL’s hottest teams are set to collide as the Halifax Mooseheads visit the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in a matchup loaded with early-season intrigue.

Both clubs have surged out of the gate, sitting second in their respective conferences and flashing serious championship potential heading into November.
Huskies Finding Their Bite
Rouyn-Noranda has built its success around a balanced attack and a lethal power play — ranked fifth in the league. Leading the charge is Thomas Verdon (7G, 17A), who’s been on fire through October, producing in key moments and giving opposing defenses fits.
The Huskies’ ability to generate offense from multiple lines has made them one of the most dangerous teams both five-on-five and on the man advantage — a big reason they’ve stayed near the top of the Western Conference standings.
Mooseheads Keep Rolling
On the other side, Halifax continues to impress with the structure and pace that have defined its strong start. Rookie forward Oleg Kulebyakin (10G, 5A) has been the sparkplug, blending creativity with a sharp scoring touch every time he’s on the ice.
Classified as a “W” prospect by NHL Central Scouting — a label tied partly to his smaller frame and less explosive stride — the Russian native will look to raise his draft stock as the season unfolds.
Defensively, Halifax has been just as strong, boasting the fourth-ranked penalty kill in the QMJHL — a stat that could prove crucial against Rouyn’s high-powered power play.
Key Matchup: Special Teams Showdown
Friday’s contest could come down to which team wins the special teams battle. Rouyn-Noranda’s power play has been a difference-maker all season, while Halifax’s aggressive penalty kill has frustrated opponents with smart positioning and relentless puck pressure.
What To Watch
- Can Kulebyakin keep his scoring streak alive on the road against one of the league’s toughest home teams?
- Will Verdon and the Huskies’ power play find a way past Halifax’s disciplined PK unit?
- And most importantly — which of these early contenders will make a statement heading into November?
Expect playoff-level intensity in Rouyn-Noranda as two of the QMJHL’s best go head-to-head in a Halloween night showdown that could foreshadow bigger battles down the road.
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET, streaming live on FloHockey.
